Remember Keith Van Horn? The rookie from Utah?

The 2nd pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, Van Horn averaged 16 points and 6.8 rebounds over 575 career games and nine seasons. He retired in 2006 at the age of 30 after playing a reserve role with the Western Conference champion Mavericks.

He left the league on his own terms. He says that being a good father was more important. “I needed to provide stability for them and be there for them,” Van Horn told me by phone. “I couldn’t do that playing in the NBA.”

Keith Van Horn was this week’s feature on the Scoop B Radio podcast. Check out his interview on Scoop B Radio below.

Since his retirement, Van Horn has been keeping himself busy in the hoops realm. As founder and executive director of the Colorado Premier Basketball Club, the former starting forward for the 2002 Eastern Conference champion Nets has been utilizing his experiences to coach and mentor kids in the greater Denver area.

Much has been made about the NBA championship trophy that Jason Terry had tattooed on the inside of his bicep prior to the 2010-2011 NBA season. But as of last week, he now has the second craziest tatt featuring the Larry O’Brien Trophy on the Mavericks. Though he logged exactly zero points and zero assists in zero minutes per game in the NBA Playoffs due to a foot injury, Mavs rookie Dominique Jones hit the tattoo parlor recently to get an image of the trophy permanently etched into his neck to prove that he is, in fact, an NBA champion. Now let’s just hope he doesn’t get traded to the Clippers anytime soon.
