One of the most exciting and talented artists to emerge in the past few years, Malik Ninety Five packs some of his best music to date into his latest project, Playlist: 002. The four-track release coincides with a major announcement from the rising New Orleans native, who is proud to announce that he is performing at this year’s Voodoo Festival in his hometown.

Playlist: 002 arrives on the heels of a series of killer singles from the multi-talented artist, who complements his melodic delivery with his own addictive approach to production. And while many of his tunes have a distinctly danceable quality, there’s depth to the lyrics within his club-ready instrumentation. Bouncy opener “All I Need,” which is co-produced by Wesley Curtis, is filled with sharp introspection that tackles what it’s like being an artist on the come up, while the hypnotic “Teen Spirit” follows the story of young folks wanting more from life.

As for why he chose to label this as a “playlist,” Malik explains that the idea is simply something he’s adapted to. “It helps bring some innovation to the way I present my craft,” he says. “Rather than one project, I’d prefer to structure the way I rollout my music as more like a bunch of mini-projects that I plan on continuing to release well into next year…and beyond.”

While he’s looking to the future and what it holds for his art, Malik also has to focus on his next milestone: performing at this year’s Voodoo Festival in New Orleans. The event, which runs Oct. 27-29, includes a number of big names including Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, Miguel, and DJ Snake, among others. And for Malik, sharing a bill with those artists means more than he can express.

“Being a kid who would go to school, come home, record, and look for new musicians to work with, the Voodoo Festival was the only outlet to see live performances of that caliber,” he says, explaining that most artists weren’t playing New Orleans until recent years. “We’re going to play our part [in the experience], put the scene on our back, and change things up a bit.”

After making waves with the recently released “Link Up,” New Orleans artist Malik Ninety Five returns with another promising single in “Right Now.”Everything about the track, from the production to the hook, to the verses, proves that Malik is definitely one to watch as we move into 2017.

“Right Now” embodies exactly what you’d want to hear from a modern Hip-Hop track that stays true to the genre’s roots, while pushing it forward. Malik’s rhymes are tightly constructed and weave a story about questioning the present and what life can bring, while the hook takes that message and turns it into a straight-up earworm. Likewise, Malik’s production is crazy-engaging thanks to its head-nodding drums, thick bass, and finely looped vocal sample ooo-ing in the background.

Like “Link Up” before it, “Right Now’ continues to build the anticipation for the New Orleans native’s forthcoming new record, The Paradise Project. And even though we’ll have to wait until late April of next year to hear it, TPP is sounding like it’ll definitely make some year-end lists come December 2017.

Instant ear candy. That’s what comes to mind upon hearing Philly/N.O. artist Malik Ninety Five’s most recent offering, “Link Up”.

Straight out of the gate (with production help from CLBTS) “Link Up” offer’s a 90’s dance music intro gleefully mixed with The Isley Brothers’ “Between the Sheets” for what’s an all around dope party song about, what else? Linking up. The 21-year old emcee’s melodic cadence shines on the hook as he takes a break from his break-neck paced verses.  It’s the ideal setting for the young artist to straight-up float with his smooth cadence and vocals, which reach those super-catchy, earworm levels on the hook.

“Link Up” is now available for stream and download through all major digital retailers, and serves as a sampling of what we can expect from his forthcoming LP, The Paradise Project, which is set to drop April 28th of next year.

New Orleans is notoriously known for it’s bounce and classic hits from Cash Money and No Limit Records. Recently, the city has been moving more towards a diverse sound with music coming from up and coming artists such as Pell and Malik Ninety Five.  Malik describes his newest LP, “ as offering “dynamic instrumentals with an unmatched flow.” The production is handled primarily by Malik and his production partner Justus Clarke. Even though this is his first mixtape, you couldn’t tell.  Malik definitely has upper echelon skills to kill the game. Stream his new mixtape, Malik Ninety Five below and we hope to see him at SXSW this year.
