#RESPECT The Debut: BMR Delivers Her Own Rendition of Shakira’s “Empire”

Hailing from Topanga, California, BMR is the offspring of a hip hop legend (Mack 10) creating her own lane. Today, she makes her debut on RESPECT with the release of her new music video titled “Empire.”

“I chose to cover Empire by Shakira because I feel that it helps capture who I am as an artist, one with versatility and culture. Empire displays my love for pop rock records and my vocal range all while having metaphorical lyrics. This video shows a softer side of BMR and gives a glimpse of how I grew up loving the beach.“

#PeepTheVisual: District 21 – “Brighter The Better”

Carving out a career in hip-hop as the child of a rap star is a difficult prospect. When a parent has made such a big impact on the genre, it is hard to escape the label of simply being their kid. Just look at some West Coast examples in Hood Surgeon and Lil Eazy E. The looming shadow of Dr. Dre and Eazy E could never be escaped by their sons. District 21 hopes to be one of the artist to break that mold.

District 21 is the son of Mack 10. Having a father that’s seen in all in the rap game certainly has its advantages. It also means that District is constantly competing with a legacy that has already been solidified. The only way to break out on his own is releasing quality music.

New Video: AD – “Blue”

Contrary to popular belief, Compton is filled with raw talent, and AD is no exception. On what first seems like a somber, reflective track of life in the CPT, AD proceeds to flip the script and go completely off on the second half of “Blue”, which borrows from Mack 10’s 1995, Inglewood classic, “Foe Life”

During the hard-hitting second half of the song, AD hits us with that West Coast gangsta, effortlessly riding the beat with nimble lyricism and lucid thoughts. Check it out below, followed by that classic Mack 10 for good measure.
