Boston rapper Latrell James has released a dope new single titled “Tracphone”. As this is his first offering of the year, he made sure to push his original sound to new heights.

Having worked with hot shots J.I.D, Lil Dicky, Cousin Stizz, and more recent J. Cole, James is ready for the big leagues. On this song you will hear him rapping about being on like a “Tracphone” over a self produced beat.

His raw lyrics mixed with his confident tone and creativity, is a direct result of his progression as an artist. When asked about what Tracphone means to him he responded “Tracphone to me is when you no longer feel like you belong in a place where you grew up”.

As many creatives can relate to James’s message, anyone who has outgrown their hometown will understand the necessity of this single.

Putting sweat and tears into each bar is apart of the building blocks of ascension, until you find yourself you’ll never know what you were meant for. Luckily for Avenue he found himself embodying the soul and aura of Boston. Through precise lyricism and punchlines on his record “Mass Ave & Lenox” proves to show that everything isn’t what it seems in this cold world. One must fend for themselves if they every choose to make it out from where they originated from.

With “The Mentality,” Boston’s Latrell James releases new material for the first time since dropping his well-recieved Twelve project. Time management is important, no matter what you do, and the rapper/producer utilized his time wisely over the last half year. Despite not releasing any new tunes for fans to enjoy, James focused on his live performance game and hit stages at various venues and colleges throughout the Northeast. In addition, he racked up noteworthy production placements for Lil Dicky, Cousin Stizz, Pslam One, and Khary, who all called on him for their respective projects and singles.

While James will continue to perform and produce for your favorite artists in 2016, look for him to focus on creating and releasing new music in the upcoming year. “The Mentality” is the first taste of that. It’s a melodic cut that features him teaming up with his brother Tedd Boyd for hypnotizing production.

He uses the favorable backing to put the money first, crooning  “I rather have no friends than be broke” and then continues “When that money dialing in, I should go.” On the catchy hook and throughout the verses, he experiments with melodies  en route to releasing one of one his tracks with the most replay value.  While it’s not attached to any body of work, “The Mentality” is a strong offering that will carry him into the new year strong.

Often times artists attempt to create conceptual projects, but truth be told, most fail. However, that isn’t the case for Boston rapper/producer Latrell James. Following a pair of solid visuals in “The Button” and “On My Own,” as well as a handful of features in local and major publications such as the Boston Globe, the 26-year-old released his long-awaited free album, “Twelve.” Produced entirely by Tedd Boyd and himself, who function under 5 Star Generals, James delivers 12 original tracks that represent his life, the changes, and the growth that occurred from age 12 to 24. Through his honest and often vulnerable lyricism, “Twelve“ takes the listener on a journey from the stages of adolescence through adulthood. It’s a cohesive body of work that is highlighted by tracks such as “Beautiful,” “Distance,” “On My Own, ” and the blistering “99 Altima.”

As the day for the release of his full-length project Twelve approaches, Latrell James unleashes a new set of visuals for the previously unreleased “On My Own,” produced by his younger brother Tedd Boyd. Teaming up with Downlow Media for their first ever music video, the budding Boston artist delivers rhymes straight from the heart, discussing a point in his life where he felt change was needed, which included removing people and things from around him that were preventing him from success.

Watch the video above and check out his previous release, the dance friendly “Boston To London.” Twelve arrives May 12th and is followed by an album release party on May 19th, which will feature a talented line-up of Crystal Caines, Khary Durgans, and Tim Nihan.

As fans wait on his Twelve project, Boston artist/producer Latrell James releases a short but sweet track in “Boston To London.” Produced by OSHI, James flows gracefully over uptempo production that incorporates elements of electric dance music. Showcasing his little known singing skills, he provides a track that features sharp lyrics as well as melodic crooning, creating a feel good vibe.
