New Video: Homeboy Sandman – “King Kong Got Nothing On Me”

After dropping the visual treatment for “Men Are Mortals” off of this year’s Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent, the Sandman has provided a video for the lead track off his other EP from this year, All That I Hold Dear. The true fun of the wide-shot clip for “King Kong,” apart from the playfully powerful lyrics–par for the course for Sandman–is the sly reveal of the video’s premise. We open up on Boy Sand sitting, munching a banana–seemingly just a sly nod to the song’s title and hook–but the subtle and funny ape-mannerisms foretell what’s coming. The intricate, insightful, and surprisingly gentle verse unfolds, and we watch as Sandman reveals himself to be more and more primal: he tosses his peel, gets bugs picked off of him, beats his chest, and even faces off with a beta-male. It’s an interesting contrast, one that serves up a solid message: there’s more to a beasts than beastliness. New Video: Homeboy Sandman – “Men Are Mortals”

No ~~rapper~~ mortal man can twist words like Boy Sand. Hailing from Sandman‘s recent EP, Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent,”Men Are Mortal” is among the most dizzying examples of the Queens MC’s skills. As he jumps rope in ultra-slo-mo, Sandman‘s motormouth bends the rules of space time to spit rhymes as dense as anything DOOM or Earl has ever spit, with a faster pace and wider scope than either has ever arguably used. Sandman begins his second verse, “I been the infamous since drinking Enfamil / Whomever want to cause an incident I be like “It’s a deal” / I’m not interested in spending an instant with the infidels / Can tell I used to read Fidel and rock Big L / My city’s like the citadel, my fears were quelled the day ceiling fell /My bros and sisters such are sitting ducks and that’s not sitting well / I sit and dwell…” and it just continues to avalanche from there. Men are mortal, Homeboy Sandman is a freight train.

New Video: Homeboy Sandman – “Peace & Love”

As the official photojournal of hip-hop, here at RESPECT. we appreciate good visuals. Homeboy Sandman is renowned for his ability to paint pictures with words, but sometimes words aren’t enough. Accordingly, he hooked up with video director and editor Chris Antonelli. The result is splendid. The coordination of the edits with the music and the soulful texture of the song with the texture of the the visuals show some real talent. We’ve got our eyes on you, Antonelli.

“Peace & Love” is the first video off his recently released album Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent. If you’ve never heard of Sandman, homeboy is nice. Get acquainted via our interview with him and check out the video below.
