Last night, the Flordian in London Knytro dropped his latest track, “Cry Love,” on Clash Magazine. A jazzy number, “Cry Love” is definitely a departure from the artist’s most recent stylings as Knytro goes back to his hip/hop roots with this jam. His lyrics flow smoothly over Fabienne‘s dreamy, soft vocals reminiscent of Amy Winehouse‘s bar-stool crooning.  It’s pretty obvious from this track that the British scene has had an influence on the rapper’s music.

We last reported on Knytro when he worked with British producer Hervé on “Money Where Your Mouth Is.” This was just another in a string of big collaborations with cutting-edge producers. After unveiling his mixtape Project Haarpoon last year, Knytro has received some overwhelmingly positive press. Jay Z’s Life + Times, Noisey, i-D and The Source all noted the rapper as one to watch for 2014. Zane Low even dubbed the tape ‘Mixtape of The Year.’ Now signed to MTA Records (owned by Chase and Status), his latest release, The Griffin EP, has similarly blown up.

Hopefully, a full-length album is on the horizon for the rapper—Knytro tends to live up to his hype. Take a listen to “Cry Love” below:

EDM and Hip/Hop have become increasingly intertwined genres of late, new remixes of raps and rap verses over bass-led electronica bangers cropping up like weeds across the internet. Every once in a while, something unique and genuine blooms.

UK producer Hervé teamed up with Florida-native rapper Knytro on “Money Where Your Mouth Is,” an eclectic, almost anxious track.Hervé starts us out with a funky beat for the first few bars, slowly adding layers of percussive sound in a spin on the traditional house music style. Pounding piano chords add darkness as Knytro’s augmented, deep voice booms across. Cue the chill verse: Knytro shatters the nervous energy slowly building up with his smooth, laid-back-but-energetic lyrics.

Knytro has been receiving a ton of attention in the media lately, most notably being featured on Jay Z’s Life + Times. Last year, Knytro’s release Project Haarpoon was even called ‘Mixtape of The Year’ by Zane Lowe. Now, Knytro is signed Chase and Status’s MTA Records (EMI/Virgin).

While “Money Where Your Mouth Is” is somewhat reminiscent of Azealia Banks feat. Pharell – “ATM Jam,” the way all of the different facets of the track come together create something really different in a kooky mix of house and hip/hop.

If you’re looking for an artist’s bandwagon to jump on, look no further than Knytro. MTA Records London-born, Orlando-bred signee makes his debut with “Status Quo,” a bass-heavy joint taken from his debut mixtape, Project Haarpoon.  The chaotic beat showcases Knytro’s raspy, charismatic flow, which only adds to the record’s unique, energetic vibe. The accompanying visual, directed by Drew Cox, offers a creative depiction of the emcee in action. This cut is just one of the many lyrically insightful material to be found on Project Haarpoon.
