Every year, February marks the beginning of one of my favorite times of the year: Black History Month. Now, we could sit around & create theories about why we were given the shortest month of the year to rock, or about how Black History is American History and should be celebrated all year, but instead we’ll focus on the positives and dead that. One of the most prominent songs continuously played every year during this time is, “Blue Skies” by Ella Fitzgerald. With the song being such a classic, creating a personal rendition of it could be frowned upon, especially coming from a rapper.

But everybody isn’t Atlanta native, KING J.

Growing up attending Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in his spare time, and a graduate of Columbia University, KING J isn’t your average rapper. And “Blue Skies” isn’t the same old soul flip done countless times in Hip-Hop. Instead, the young artist enlists Mariama Tatum and Southwest Mook for a highly enjoyable take on the classic song.
