After six months of recouping, strategizing, and taking a break from the music scene, Canadian rapper Kordoroy Floyd has returned with a new single “Free”. As this is his first coming of the year, it is the perfect follow up to his 2018 self-titled debut album, Kordoroy Floyd. This release a perfect offering of his raw talent, unique story telling, and creativity which is felt throughout.

Produced by up and coming beat maker Zlender, this song is a straight bop. The ethereal, harmonious melody, is a perfect fit over Floyd’s raw and authentic bars. The original sound you will hear, is an ode to his Canadian roots with a hip hop undertone.

Some notable lyrics from this song are “Don’t say you bout it, when you ain’t bout it, yea really it get on my nerves, n****s be weirdos they tossin a pillow, when they gon learn”. He does a good job of firing off punchline after punchline as the chorus melts into his verses.

One of the most unique things about Canadian artists is their diverse upbringing. This is the same for Floyd. As an African growing up in Vancouver, he discovered early on the power in using your voice to breakdown barriers. His confident tone of voice showcases his desire to be great way beyond securing a bag. When asked what this record meant to him, the MC said it reminded him to never settle for fame over fortune.

“This record is my Audio coffee! Wakes me up. It’s really about killing all the doubt and fear in my mind and reminding myself I’m literally the best kept secret with this music, unapologetically African and I’ll never settle for clout over dollars. Ain’t shit Free!” The strong message he is sending through this material, is something many music enthusiasts can relate to.

As he has already received praise from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Kid Ink, Onyx and Kaskade, this talented artist is ready for the big leagues. Versatility marks an artist who acknowledges and performs the definition of what an artist is. Kid Ink took to “One Day” to latch onto his gospel side and engage his fans, and himself, in conversation about what very well was a successful conclusion to the many obstacles he had to circumvent throughout his time coming up, and growing up, in a lower income neighborhood- as many rappers and rap listeners can most certainly relate to.

The visual for “One Day” has similar inklings of humility, but furthers the concept by adding in substantive imagery of the environment Kid Ink is familiar with. Haunting shots of a cemetery hint at a graver reality and trauma he has faced, or is facing. Panned shots of lower income LA, where Kid Ink is from, as well as the residents of it- be it the homeless or the regular civilians walking about on the daily- are also included in the visual. It adds to a very real place he, and many other rappers, could have ended up at- or remained in- had music not been some sort of a “God send”; a fitting analogy, considering Kid Ink takes to a church to rap nearly all of his verses.

Although summer is coming to an end, Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayo Jay gives us an infectious summertime vibe with a remix to his hit single, “Your Number.”

The Afrobeat artist sweet talks a woman into sliding him her number….but in the most raunchiest way ever. Chris Brown gets explicit with his verse, meanwhile Kid Ink follows suit of Jay and Brown.

LA-born rapper Bricc Baby releases his second mixtape Nasty Dealer 2, recruiting some of the best in the game to support his new project.

Bricc was raised in South LA, and was lucky enough to make friends with Kid Ink and Casey Veggies back in the day. The rapper later moved to Atlanta where he met the likes of Future and Young Thug. He then went to work as a driver for Casey Veggies whilst he was on tour. Veggies influenced Bricc to start rapping and taught him how to freestyle. Speaking to LA Weekly, rapping was never quite Bricc’s career path in the first instance.

“I’d rap in school, but I never wanted to be a rapper. It was just something to do in class when I wasn’t listening.”

Now with the follow up to his first mixtape Nasty Dealer, the ATL affiliated rapper brings us his new project which boasts a number of huge names including Gucci Mane, Young Thug and Fetty Wap, and production credits from DJ Mustard, Brodinski, Dun Deal to name a few. One of the tracks on Nasty Dealer 2 that seems to be getting a lot of attention is Bricc’s “Trap Out The Uber” featuring none other than Chris Brown.

Filled with that trap sound, a variety of artists and tracks to get turnt to, you might want to add this one to your playlist for the summer!

Kid Ink has dropped the official video for his new single “Nasty” featuring Jeremih and dancehall singer Spice. The LA rapper hinted on social media for the past few days that the video would be on its way and it appears that he has kept true to his word.

After releasing the single back in May, Ink recently took MTV News down to Miami with him for a behind-the-scenes look at this colorful and festive video.

“We wanted to shoot something authentic for this record since it has Caribbean influence,” Ink told MTV News. “We typically shoot all of my videos in Los Angeles but we had to take this one down to Miami to catch the proper vibe to bring this record to life visually.”

Kid Ink is set to drop his mixtape Rocketshipshawty 2 sometime soon.
