Remember that time Kevin Garnett guest starred on the Jamie Foxx show?

Garnett, then in his first stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves was in town and was staying as a guest at King’s Tower. The funniest scene of that episode was when Jamie was wearing a Timberwolves jersey that was not KG’s and Garnett pointed it out. Jamie indicated that the store ran out of KG’s #21 jerseys, but had a whole lot of Wally Szczerbiak jerseys.

Just one problem: Jamie and KG couldn’t pronounce Wally’s last name. Sound it out darnit: ‘SIR-BE-AK’

Instead, Foxx and KG broke out in a session of Three 6 Mafia & UGK’s Sippin’ on Some Sizzurp.

The hilarious exchange starts at the 2:15 mark of the YouTube video above.

Poor Wally Szczerbiak!

“I remember when that happened,” Wally Szczerbiak told me on Scoop B Radio.

“If social media was alive back then my computers would have been blowing up. That was a great moment. I had some great years with Kevin Garnett, we had our ups and downs. But in the end, everything worked out well. That was a pretty funny scene though one that I will always remember and always go back to YouTube and watch.”

Szczerbiak also discussed the state of the current Timberwolves squad that includes Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.“They’ll always have a special place in my heart,” said Szczerbiak.

“I always root for the Timberwolves and it breaks my heart that ever since KG and I left they haven’t made the playoffs just goes to show you how hard it is to win in the NBA and it takes a little bit of luck. But I think the fact that they have multiple number one draft picks and are developing talent, the future is bright for them and hopefully one of these years they can get it right and things can start to click and lead to wins because that’s a really proud franchise that I remember winning a lot of games with and making multiple playoff runs.”

Two time NBA champ and the top 3-point shooter in NBA history, Ray Allen, announced his retirement by writing a letter to his 13-year-old self in a post on The Players’ Tribune website.

Allen spent 18 seasons in the league and two years after his last game, he has finally decided to bow out. I have watched him play ever since I was a little kid. He’s my favorite NBA player and he really opened up to the world with this letter.

Over the coarse of his career, according to NBA.com, “he played in Milwaukee, Seattle, the Celtics and the Heat, averaging 18.9 points in 1,300 regular-season games and appearing in 10 All-Star games.”

Writing to his 13-year-old self, Allen talks to his younger self giving him advice and letting him know how his life will pan out. Digging deep into his military family household, he brings up being an outsider and always having to make new friends in different cities. But he always leads himself to the same place – the court.

“I write this to you as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game,” Allen said in the post. “I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself.”

He takes his readers on a journey through his life. About being told as a kid that he “talks like a white boy.” About how high school ball will be nothing like what he will go through at a D1 school like UConn. How his college coach Jim Calhoun will almost break his younger self, but make him into a better basketball player and person. How he will play alongside Hall of Famers like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. And of course, how he will win two championships – 1 playing for the Celtics and 1 for the Heat.

At the end of it all though, it’s not about the championships he wins or how many shots he makes, but about the work he puts in and the “same old boring habits.” He tells himself that “life is about the journey, not the destination. And that journey will change you as a person.”

Congratulations to a legend, the greatest shooter to play the game – Ray Allen.

ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Williams is a huge fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl Anthony Towns.

Williams was the second overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls and ACC Rookie of the Year while playing for Duke University. Before leading the Blue Devils to a 2001 NCAA National Championship under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, Williams was a student athlete at St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, Towns alma mater.

“There are a lot of peeps that you see when you’re going through TV and you’re like ‘alright that guy needs my lending hand.’ KAT never needed me,” Williams told me.

The NBA’s reigning Rookie of The Year, Towns is a special player because he’s a modern big man that has a solid back to the basket game, a consistent face-up game, a 3-point shot and slick dribble too.

All of that is cool, but what impresses Jay Williams the most is Towns’ maturity at 20 years old. “The way he handles himself, the way he speaks, the way he thinks through the game, the way he acts off the court, he doesn’t act like a teenager, like he acts like a grown man and that’s how he should act. I’m proud as hell of him. I don’t think there’s a lot of young dudes in the league that have all of their head together and KAT definitely does so.”

Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves are a young team on the rise with players like Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Ricky Rubio and Shabazz Muhammad gracing that roster alongside Towns.

Towns credited Williams especially during his NBA Draft process in 2015 for helping him stay focused.

During last season, Towns leaned on now-retired forward Kevin Garnett for his guidance in getting acclimated to the NBA. “He continuously told me to be patient,” Towns told me. “Being patient on the court, everything will begin to slow down. I mean, just how to be a professional, how to be a professional in this game on and off the court. Just to do my best to lead, and that’s the biggest thing.”

As for Jay Williams, his book, Life Is Not an Accident: A Memoir of Reinvention is worth a read. The book highlights his NBA career and the terrible head-on motorcycle accident that severely damaged himself and ended his career. “I know where that lifestyle can take you,” he said. “The glitz and the fame and all of that, it’s addictive. “You know, you want more of it. The only thing I’m worried about is my bank account and the kind of legacy that I leave with my family. If I can take care of those two things, I’m a happy man.”

A former Chicago Bull, Williams still keeps his eyes on his former team and the offseason additions of Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade. “Don’t know how I feel about Rajon Rondo,” he said. “I think that he’s a brilliant point guard. Everything that I’ve heard or seen says that there have been difficulties with him in the locker room. I love that D-Wade came home. I still don’t see nobody beating Cleveland though, no matter what they do.”
