Kellyanne Conway, counselor to Donald Trump, has confirmed that he will not be releasing his tax returns after the audit on his financials is finished. This goes against what he has promised since his first debate with Hillary Clinton and had repeatedly promised since then up until this point.

Conway revealed this information during an interview with ABC’s This Week. After it was brought up that there had been a petition with over 200,000 signatures in less than 2 days demanding to see Trump’s tax returns, she stated that, “The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns”. According to NBC, he is the first person in his position to not releases his tax returns since the 1970s. Conway also stated that:

“We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care…They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: Most Americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like. And you know full well that President Trump and his family are complying with all the ethical rules, everything they need to do to step away from his businesses and be a full-time president.”

This is false.

According to recent polls, approximately ¾ of Americans want Trump to release his tax information. In addition to this, ethics committees have found that Trump’s actions to halt his conflicts of interest with his businesses have come up short, and that he has not even filled out the necessary paperwork in Florida, Delaware, and New York. We Americans will see what other “alternative facts” come up in the few days—and 4 years—of Trump’s power.
