Simply put, Haring tried to make the world better and more thoughtful with his art. Even when he was ill, he remained an activist and joined a group to protest for safe sex. On September 15, 1985 he drew his piece Untitled, which portrays a monster whose body is covered by a red cross, symbolic of the presence of disease in the world

Haring’s work first appears playful and child-friendly, but it is the work of an enraged man. In spite of the color selection, there is an extreme presence of violence: the exhibit puts forth a story, placed into chapters by theme: Capitalism, Religion, Mass Media, The Fear of Nuclear, AIDS, Death. None of these themes belong solely to the past. His characters are in-temporal, not only due to the themes they embody but because of their lack of faces. They could be anyone; they are each of us.

Japanese retailer Uniqlo linked up with toothless tongue twister Danny Brown for its latest ad campaign. The short clip below features the Detroit artist talking about his journey as a rapper. Brown remains true to his usual goofiness and tells us a few anecdotes, from the story of his parents meeting each other to his brief bid in jail which “tought him how to read people.”

Brown made one particularly notable comment: “I still have so much stuff I want to do. If I think it it happens, it usually works out like that.” That’s a casual way of living life, but it appears to be working out pretty well for him.

The concept for the video is to present the artist’s “life in a minute.” In it you will see some of the rad new tees that are coming soon to Uniqlo stores. Note the Keith Haring design. In addition, the brand is also sponsoring TruckShop Performances. Danny Brown will be performing Saturday, April 6th somewhere in New York City. They haven’t released specific times or locations regarding where the bus will be parking, but stay tuned to Uniqlo’s Facebook page for more details. In the words of Danny himself, “#style!” (The hashtag is silent).
