The above message by Free Nationals (who you may know through their performances with Anderson .Paak) is a great way to envision their new song “Time,” which acts as the first official posthumous record with the late Mac Miller. The track — which also features the equally-talented Kali Uchis — follows last year’s “Beauty & Essex” and speaks to time’s role in a relationship (as Mac Miller raps):

Look at me watering seeds, it’s time to grow
I get out of control when I’m alone
If you can make it with me, you can make it on your own
So quit the bulls*** and playing on my phone
We just need some time…

Kali Uchis has to be one of the more promising female artists doing well right now. For her latest, she reveals “Tyrant,” the first new single from her upcoming debut album. The track was premiered on Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 show.

From her feature on Daniel Caesar‘s song “Get You” to British crooner Jorja Smith‘s assistance on “Tyrant,” Kali lets her unique-but-still very angelic vocals shine. On this track, however, she brings out her Columbian roots, setting the tone for Jorja to add her own flavor to the record.

“A post-apocalyptic love song,” she said about the song in a press release. “Wanting to stay in the haze of puppy love forever and never face the power struggles, because that’s your only real escape from the cold realities of life.”

While she was also recently featured on Gorillaz‘s fourth studio album Humanz, “Tyrant” is her first new solo material since 2016’s “Only Girl.” Her debut studio album is expected to arrive later this year. For now, take in the track below.

Colombian singer, by way of Virginia, Kali Uchis, has returned with a smooth new record featuring The Internet‘s Steve Lacy and Long Beach’s Vince Staples. Montreal producer, Kaytranada arranged this sonic masterpiece as he continues his hot-streak. He’s recently produced for Mick Jenkins, Pusha T, Azaelia Banks as he gears up to release his own project 99.9%.

The groovy record is a back and fourth conversation between males and females as they express feelings that are all too common in relationships, such as when Kali says, “Time and time again I said I would leave you alone.” Steve Lacy’s character on this record spews one of the most typical phrases used when a man reassures his woman of his love for her, “There’s only one girl for me/Baby you know it” and he also uses the number one phrase used by cheaters, “Just give me one more chance/I promise I won’t blow it.” Vince Staples closes out the song by bringing his refreshingly crisp, lemon-lime flow to this already exceptional musical cocktail.

“Only Girl” is Kali Uchis’ first official song release in over a year. Since her Por Vida EP last February, the Latina artist has grown in popularity immensely and it seems about the right time for her to drop another project. It appears as if this record will be the first single off the yet to be announced album, but according to her tweets it’s coming soon.

Inspired by Quentin Tarantino flicks, Kali Uchis liberates her latest video for “Rush” from her Por Vida project that dropped earlier this year. Kali described her vision for “Rush”, which is directed by WIISA, as one that included the hope that “while watching this video you will find a moment of peace in this world full of images of violence and injustice”.

If you’ve been sleeping on Virginia’s Kali Uchis, you seriously better cut it out. The Colombian-born singer released her debut album, Por Vida, earlier this year and it definitely had R&B/Soul enthusiasts talking.

Chuck Inglish, who we all know as one half of The Cool Kids, reworks on of the album’s lead singles, “Know What I Want”, giving it a retro Hip-Hop sound, while managing to maintain Kali’s soulful demeanor.
