K. Forest caught everyone’s ear with his viral record “Guidance” a buzz that went into overdrive when Travis Scott remixed it for Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. He has been on rotation on key R&B and Regional Spotify playlists and has been dropping heat records like “Flights And Breakups” (a collaboration with aforementioned Ye Ali), “Link” and “Before You Go.”

He returns with a brand new project titled Eyes of Taiga. The rising talent delivers 11 tracks written and performed by him with production from dF, Ye Ali, Bizness Boi, and Cardiak.

Overall, Eyes of Taiga creates a seductive and dark mood. Other than the obvious uptempo anthems “Link” and “Before You Go,” the balance between mid-tempo and down-tempo production leaves the focus on K. Forest and creates room for him to add to his expanding range of R&B riffs with standout tracks like “Salvation,” “Ride for Me,” and “Favor.”

The way Forest approaches singles ties him into a larger music phenomenon: Dancehall and Afro Soca as viable chart-topping options. A fabulous trend that is introducing new sounds into a tired existing trap sensibility that begins and ends in FL Studio. If the success of records like “Controlla” “Work” “One Dance” “LUV” “Not Nice” & “Gwan Big Up Urself” is any indication, we may be in the midst of a new wave of uptempo-island-jiggyness that universalizes a robust R&B sound centered around Toronto culture.
