Touching many lives through music, Timbuck2 was not your average DJ, with multiple influences of hip-hop his technique with the turntables, he always seen it as an opportunity to educate hip hop. Common recalled memorable evenings spent listening to the turntablist, concluding that he was “one of the most talented and gifted DJs ever!” Known for putting Chicago talent on the local radio, Timbuck2 was one of the biggest supporters of the Chicago music movement, working as a tour DJ for major artist including West, Common and Lupe Fiasco.

Up and coming creative SuperbBeatmaker, has made the executive decision to embark on a career as as a music producer. His Atlanta upbringing and strong core values has given him a solid foundation to stand on. Being influenced by Just Blaze, Araabmuzik, and Jahlil Beats, he has an authentic sound that is destined to produce a top 10 hit.

I caught up with SB for a short interview, in which he discusses balancing family, music and having a career in the entertainment business. Check it out below.

SuperbBeatmaker Interview

RESPECT: What made you embark on a career as a producer?

SB: It all started back in 2012, when I wanted to try something different which was making beats. I tried figuring out a name and came up with “SuperbBeatmaker”; I was 21 at the time. I bought my first drum machine an Alesis SR 16, which was made in 1991. I had to figure out how use a drum machine because the producers that inspired me always used drum machines from Havoc (Mobb Deep), Just Blaze, Araabmuzik & Jahlil Beats.

I moved back to New York in summer of 2012 to better establish myself as a producer because that’s where I was born. I started making beats and posting them online and grabbing the attention of up and coming artists. I didn’t have a laptop at the time just a Tascam DR05. I relocated back to Atlanta for a second time in 2014 and started networking.

I met Andre 3000 in January of 2015 and that changed my life because at the time, we conversed and he asked for my Soundcloud and info, at that time I wasn’t making music. After that conversation, I wanted to impact the music industry because I realize the industry moves very fast.

I understood that conversation was an eye opener of what I was suppose to be doing as a producer “always being ready”. In 2018, I was managed by the same management team as Dave East. I released 2 projects in 2018, “Long Awaited 1 & Long Awaited 2”.

I had the opportunity to work with Dame Grease on the project, Grease is an multi-platinum producer who produced for DMX, French Montana, Max B, and the list goes on. In the early months of 2019, I was offered a deal through a CashMoney & RichGang affiliate. This past April, I released my third project “High Profile”.

Currently I am working on another project which will be released towards the end of the summer. I recently dropped a single with an Atlanta artist by the name of Mr. 95 called “Connected” available on all streaming platforms.

RESPECT: How are you able to balance being a family man, with music?

SB: Being balanced with music and being a family man can become a challenge at times. I usually dedicate my time to my family throughout the daytime and at night I produce. You can say, I setup a schedule for myself. Both aspects of my life deserve time and can be time consuming. My family loves music so, when we all go out we’ll listen to music and they turn up; while I study hi-hats, snares and melodies they listen to. My family supports me 100%, that’s what I’m thankful for.

RESPECT: How you best describe your production style?

SB: I listen to all genres of music from hip hop to country. My sound is unique and very distinctive. I’ve been using hardware ever since the day I started producing music. I still use the MPC 2000 (made in 1997) and a Kawai K1 (made in 1988). My music gives you that 90’s hip hop drum feel while still using 808’s in the new trap music. All in all, my production style is futuristic because I don’t use all the sounds the rest of the producers are using.

RESPECT: In what ways do you plan to impact the music industry?

SB: I want to set the trend of stepping outside of the comfort zone of what’s the cool thing to do in music currently. My impact would be for all creators to believe in yourself from the start and stay to yourself. I would love to sit back and watch the producers after me go back into history and use vintage equipment while enjoying making music with it. I started out recording with a Tascam DR-05 and I don’t regret doing that because I didn’t have any new technology to feel comfortable about making music.

RESPECT: Who do you hope to work with in the future?

SB: I would love to work with Schoolboy Q, Griselda Records (Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine & Benny The Butcher), Joe Budden when he comes out of retirement. I love working with underdogs and up and coming artists, thats been my thing ever since I started producing.

RESPECT: How has Atlanta influenced you musically?

SB: Atlanta has influenced my creativity, not just musically, but socially. I’ve been influenced by the amount of creators in Atlanta, it’s very competitive and your versatility has to be high. Currently, Atlanta in general is running the music industry.

I’m from New York, so imagine me coming up on Nas, and Jay-Z (lyrical content) to The Migos (party records). Everyone does music in Atlanta, no matter where you go from singing, rapping, and producing. This is a city where you’ll get lost if you’re not original. I value everyones message not only in Atlanta, everywhere.

Rapture tells the story of nine remarkable artists who above all made sure that the scale tipped in their favor. The critically acclaimed Netflix original was created not only for the fans, but for the culture, giving a break down of the evolution of Hip-Hop in 2018.

Throughout the docuseries, we’re given a glimpse of what it takes to become an artist (from choosing the right instrumental) to even writing down a full set of lyrics throughout the long process. Amongst all of the top tier artists, Dave East, Nas, Rapsody, G-Eazy, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Logic, Just Blaze, T.I. and 2 Chainz stepped up to the plate. A lot of the time, the majority of artists expressed that — if not for music — their destinys would have never turned out so well.

Being able to be truthful tell a real story through music has always been the motive; being able to have the average person relate is the essence of Hip-Hop. Music has proven to be one of the most influential forms of art, with the power to unite people together. The Rapture soundtrack is made up of six-tracks that give you a variation of elements (Trap, mumble rap and lyricism).

The opportunity to be able to stamp that exact moment in history. Following the series, it’s only customary that all these artists come together for one project. You can stream the project below.

With the release of his new EP, Perfectly,Tragically, Flawed, OnCue has pushed to new heights hitting the #12 spot on iTunes. The 6-track EP was executively produced by veteran producer, Just Blaze alongside Maki & OnCue. Coming freshly off his performances at SXSW and the release of his hot single “Rent Money,” OnCue is really taking no breaks. But all his other projects don’t take the shine away from his EP:

“When I set out to make this project, I just let go of everything. The past, the present and the what might-be’s of the future. I’ve messed up, I’ve fallen down and I’ve gotten back up countless times now. Over the course of time making PTF, I learned I’m just myself, for better or for worse. This is what these six songs are all about – self-acceptance. I think you can hear the confidence in my voice. I know who I am now.”

The BK artist is known for his effortless genre blending style mixed with his honest lyrics and that is all included on Perfectly, Tragically, Flawed. He applies a hands-on approach by directing his vision as a musician, down to every font and drop shadow.

Ironically, the album titled the turning point in the career of then 30-year-old Jay Z. The Blueprint laid out the direction in which his already legend would become legendary. The symbolic and iconic masterpiece was a defining moment in the genius of music. The Blueprint, executively produced by Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, Damon Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, oozes Roc-A-Fella epicness since September 11, 2001 until now. The album also holds a sadden memory that day, the day of the 9/11 attacks that the world will never forget. In Hip Hop, the album was the beginning of the end of a trilogy that will go down in the history books of greatest of all time. The all-in-blue memento was perfectly written and stories were perfectly told. Producing handles by some of the greats: Kanye West, Just Blaze, Trackmaster, Timbaland, Bink, and Eminem, who also lended a hand as the album’s solo guest contributor on one of the hardest tracks, “Renegade.” The beat hits so hard as the vocals ring off in your ears and Jigga and Eminem’s bars flow so fluently together.

After hitting you so hard once it would only be appropriate that Jigga came through for the ladies on “Girls, Girls, Girls.” On the track, Jay Z gets around the globe showing love to every type of woman there is. He gives us tears with “Song Cry,” behind a hot melody and a brilliant storyline; “They say you can’t turn a bad girl good, but once a good girl’s gone bad, she’s gone forever…” The meaning runs deep, the feeling is real, and the the tone is raw in expression. “Never Change” forever holds an authenticity that can never be denied, “I’ll never change, this is Jay all day…”

“The Takeover” is timeless and was done effortless in response to the famous beef at that moment in time; “Ask Nas, he don’t want it with Hov, nooo!” Jay made the statement of all with “The Ruler’s Back” and shows there is no love with “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love)”, later performed with Mary J. Blige. “U Don’t Know” reigns as the greatest track on The Blueprint, “U don’t know what you do…” “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” is the album’s anthem, “I can’t leave rap alone, the game needs me…” The Blueprint is truly a classic, all 13 tracks included plus two bonus tracks, “Breathe Easy (Lyrical Exercise) and “Girls, Girls, Girls (Remix)” To Hip Hop this spells legendary and the best Hov album in history; not to mention his very own closing remark in the thank you’s:

“To This Whole Fake Bulls**t Industry, Thanx 4 being so Fake and Keeping me on my Toes!!! I Love Ya’ll Holla Back!”

Just Blaze made headlines yesterday as he detailed via Periscope a routine traffic stop that many minorities deal with all too well.

However, fortunate enough for Just Blaze, he avoided confrontation that could have turned for the worse.

Tuesday night, Just Blaze vented to fans using Periscope to discuss the events of a traffic stop in which an officer questioned him about how “legit” his car was. Watch the video from Blaze’s Twitter account below.

Blaze was simply driving his Lamborghini Huracan completing some errands. Afterwards, he explained the car was dirty, so he does what normal people do and decided to run it through a car wash. Before going through the car wash, it was then when an officer pulled him over asking “Is this car legit?” prompting Blaze to produce his driving licence and registration papers.

Regarding the nature of the question, Blaze was baffled. Normally, the procedure for a routine traffic stop has the officer look over a driver’s license and registration papers, while and matching it up with what pops up in the computer. Aware of what could have happened, he followed procedure while the officer checked his license and registration. “I don’t want any issues. I don’t wanna be an accident” said Blaze.

The officer tried pulling a fast one when he noticed Blaze’s car had no front license plate. How could the officer know his car had no front license plate if he pulled him over from the behind?

“I have a nice car, this particular one. It’s not the kind of you put a front license plate on. You know what this car is.”

Within the video, he explains why one wasn’t on the vehicle, and why he believes the officer was just looking to harass him. The officer claims there was an “exotic car issue.”

Salute to Blaze for keeping calm and not becoming the “accident” he feared he’d become. Here is the full video to Blaze’s description of the event.
