Juice40k challenges mortality on “Live Forever.” Is it me, or does the perception of the villainous underdog make for a more interesting narrative? Not to say that Juice40K is a villain, (or even an underdog for that matter) but “Live Forever” prophetically speaks to the darker, more ominous underbelly of our nations capital. “Live Forever” is pain; a grim and menacing reflection of self which invites listeners into Juice’s psychedelic dreamworld. The EP offers consistency from start to finish, allowing for the 8-track project to curate a setting of drugs, love, hate, lust, and confusion. Melodically low keys and grim, knocking drums are all part of Juice40K’s musical aesthetic, laying the groundwork for his signature, nasally/raspy vocals. Cuts like “Gas Gas,” “She Been On Drugs,” and “2ina10oz” act as clear portrayals of Juice’s evolution. “All Black” epitomizes the trapper turned rapper memoir as he raps:

“I came out of the mud/Fell in love with the drugs/Fell in love with the cash/Money bags, Money bags.”

While “Max B” may be his most recognizable record (and an obvious homage to Biggavelli) Juice40k finds his home and embraces his lane of sound. Weed, lean, etc. are Hip-Hop mainstays, but the authenticity of his sound and concise representation of his innate affinity for drug culture course through the projects bindings, allowing for “Live Forever” to be believable, an anomaly of sorts in today’s market. “Live Forever” is Juice’s first (albeit impressive) effort, and like all first efforts, the main key is to introduce the world to the artist you are. Juice introduces HIMSELF to the world, solidifying the notion that truthful transperancy is the best policy and often the road less traveled. “Live Forever” embodies digital trap, but his colorful vision and lucid take on street culture ensures that Juice40K is synonymous with this brand of Hip-Hop. Hopefully forever.

Juice’s drug-fueled, sonic dialogue doesn’t just take a metaphorical bow to Biggavelli, but combines vulnerable pieces of what comprises 40K himself. While often finding lyrical solace in the subliminal, J40K takes the overt approach; A drowned-out onslaught of sex and drugs, chronicling the role vices play in the game of artistic expression. ‘Max B’ epitomizes a more youthful look at not only Max’s legacy, but an audio documentation of the pivotal crossroads where drug culture and urban culture collide. “Ridin’ round my city bumpin’ on that Max B/pour this Pimp C, off this Codeine’ defines the song’s direction, cementing a strong early release from another DC hopeful. Produced by $HrOOMAVeLi, ‘Max B’s’ ghoulish drums and slow paced tempo match Juice’s authentic persona, capturing tangible thoughts in between lean sips and rips from the Backwoods. ‘Max B’ is a generational record. Juice creates a generational dichotomy where understanding the Waviest one’s legacy and impact on todays culture vehemently collide, and whether that was intentional or otherwise, the Juice is still undeniable.
