JT5K is making a name for himself in the hip-hop world and he is well on his way to making it big. The Canadian artist from Edmonton, Alberta is garnering the attention of many due to his catchy melodies and memorable hooks over an OVO/XO inspired production. We recently had the chance to get to know him more via interview. Check it out below!

I realized I could actually have a future in music when my team and I released a song called problems and it hit the Spotify algorithm and took off. Shortly after that, I submitted it to a bunch of social media outlets and Fashionova used it on one of there clothing posts which was really cool! After that, the music just kept being demanded so I kept going.

I actually started producing a couple months ago, and it started off as really difficult but I started got the hang of it. Producers need more credit honestly because it is thought to make beats that hit on a consistent basis. Other then that, I mainly song write for people or try to help people with there melodies.

I’m from Western Canada, and it’s honestly untouched territory. A lot of Canadian artists come from Toronto and Montreal which is on the east side of the country. I feel like people look at artists differently on this side of Canada because it’s not “Toronto”. The hiphop scene in Edmonton is growing, and there is a lot of talented artists here, so it’s just a matter of time before someone blows up.

I was in the studio going through beats, and I heard the beat. I instantly caught a flow off of it, and started recording. I actually have a two versions of the song, but I knew that the right feature could take it to the next level. I contacted my friend John who is 1/2 of the Cardiff brothers, and he did his thing, and the rest is history.

I started to find my sound and the beats that suit me the best. My mixing, mastering, and writing got a lot better and I feel like my team got a lot strong. Everyone got better at everything they do and everyone is starting to click and find there sound fully.

Yea! I plan on releasing a project in 2020 sometime. I just want to make sure that my fans, or whoever has been listening since the beginning get my absolute best music. For now I’ll continue to grow as an artist and drop singles and master my craft. I recently connected with Ruby Recordings and everything has been phenomenal! Trizzy has a great management staff and system, and is a dope artist himself!

Honestly, I’ve learned that if you try to create your own sound and your own pocket of music people will cater to it more because it’s different. Obviously it’s good to have artists who you look up to, but try to make your own sound and find your own niche. Music listeners love something new and that they haven’t heard before.
