Hosted by Joel McHale at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the 43rd Annual People’s Choice Awards turned out to be an epic night of sorts for some of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars. Ellen Degeneres made history Wednesday night when she was nominated for three awards including favorite talk-show host, favorite animated voice for Finding Dory and favorite comedic collaboration with Britney Spears for their “Mall Mischief” segment and won in all three categories. To date, Degeneres has accepted a total of 20 People Choice Awards; the most of any celebrity. She later took to twitter to tweet her gratitude of thanks.

Other winner of the night included: Kevin Hart for favorite comedic actor, Johnny Depp who accepted an award for favorite movie icon, Tyler Perry whom accepted an award for favorite humanitarian, in which he reminded the audience of the importance of helping others. Fifth Harmony may be one girl down but that didn’t slow the group down from putting on a show stopping performance on Wednesday night, the group performed their single “Work from Home” and also nabbed the favorite group award again for the second year in a row. Johnny Depp will be starring in a brand new upcoming thriller as an investigative detective on the murder of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming film titled, Labyrinth has now been acquired by Open Road Films for the North American distribution rights. The script was written by Christian Contreras, adapting Randall Sullivan’s in-depth book LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. In an announcement made on Monday, Open Road’s CEO Tom Ortenberg called the project “an edgy and timely investigative thriller.”

The film will be directed by Brad Furman, with production set to begin in November of this year. Miriam Segal, who’s collaborated with Furman in the past on The Infiltrator, will be the producer of the film. Labyrinth is centered on Russell Poole (Depp), a shunned LAPD detective whose failed to solve the murder cases of the iconic, rival hip-hop artists for ten years. He eventually partners up with a reporter as a desperate attempt to salvage his reputation and to finally revel the truth behind the slaying of Tupac and Biggie.

It’s clear that the legendary artists continue to have an immense impact and contribution to today’s culture. With the upcoming Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me premiering in November and the late-great moving story of Biggie in Notorious (2009), the public will continue to pay tribute and recognition to these timeless artists and their work. The Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk has finally opened up to the public after four years of planning, work and delayed construction. Mayor Bill de Blasio marked the official grand opening of the Amphitheater on June 29^th, 2016 with an honorary ribbon cutting ceremony, just in time for the annual 4^th of July holiday weekend. The $60 million investment venue, developed by iStar is expected to bring new affordable housing to the Coney Island area, more open space and should provide over 240 living-wage jobs.

The Amphitheater will be operated by LiveNation and assisted by Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment in programming and branding of the theater, the same company that oversees the Barclays Center’s business operations. The theater which already has a series of events lined up for the summer can seat up to 5,000 individuals. The main stage of the theater is built into the southern side of the landmarked Childs Building, which is set to be finishing off renovations on a new restaurant and a 400,000 square-foot greenspace set to open sometime next year in 2017.
