In the book There’s A God On The Mic: The 50 Greatest Emcees, author and old-school emcee Kool Moe Dee said:

“There are two types of freestyle. There’s an old-school freestyle that’s basically rhymes that you’ve just thought of on the spot that may not have anything to do with any subject or that goes all over the place. Then there’s freestyle where you come off the top of the head.”

But, in an era where it’s common to see rappers reading verses from their cell phones on the airwaves; hip-hop fanatics don’t care which form of freestyling an emcee uses as long as it’s authentic.

On Monday, in the middle of promoting his upcoming LP in L.A, Joey Bada$$ stopped by The Cruz Show on Power 106 in L.A again to bless listeners with a free verse.  In the freestyle, Joey implemented elements from both types of freestyling over “All I Want Is You,” by Miguel featuring J Cole.

Last week, Joey blessed the city with the Lakers freestyle over Future’s “Mask Off.” The Brooklyn, NY emcee then passed the mic to esteemed YouTube emcee, Harry Mack to join in the lyrical massacre.

Watch the footage from the freestyles below. Joey’s third studio album All AmeriKKKan Bada$$,  is slated for release on April 7th. Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, the fourth studio album from 2 Chainz is slated for release on the same day.

Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ recently dropped his latest single just in time for the summer called “Devastated.” He recently premiered the track during his Coachella set in April and unlike his usual catalog of songs this single exuberates an enlightening energy.

With the jaunty beats– cultivated by a trio of producers Adam Pallin, Kirk Knight, and Powers Pleasant— Bada$$ is able to give fans inspiriting lyrics such as “I used to feel so devastated/At times I thought we’d never make it/But now we on the path to greatness/And all it ever took was patience.”

It appears to be a coincidence that Bada$$ drops a single around the time of Troy Ave’s arrest considering that the two were on going rivals; he has sensibly decided not to respond to the situation as of yet.

Aside from the new single he dropped, Bada$$ also informed us that he and Pro Era will be holding a second annual Steez Day Festival, which pays homage to crew member who took his own life.

This will take place at Los Angeles’ Novo on July 7th with sets featured by Pro Era, A$AP Mob, Danny Brown and Raury.

A$AP Rocky and Joey Bada$$ will headline a New York City tribute concert celebrating the life of A$AP Yams.  “Yams Day” is scheduled for Jan. 18, the one-year anniversary of his death.

Special guests are expected to perform, although the names are TBA.

Yams, 26, died from an overdose . Rocky found his A$AP Mob brother unconscious in his apartment.

“I just look at his face. I look at [A$AP] Lou. You could just tell. We knew,” Rocky told the New York Times earlier this year. “I was scared. I was wilding on everybody, like, ‘Who let him do drugs?,’ even though you can’t blame nobody.”
