Joella Deville is an experimental songstress who has been steadily growing her fan base through compelling singles and music videos, and performing in captivating live shows alongside her R&B contemporaries.

All that hard work and hustle has led to the release of Pour, her stunning new album that showcases her songwriting talents and powerhouse vocals.

R&B fans of all generations will have plenty to explore and fall in love with across the record’s 13 tracks, thanks to Joella Deville’s knack for finding a balance between old-school and modern styles. While she’s been praised for bringing back the ‘90s classic R&B sound, she also proves that she’s able create timeless music that transcends eras.

That was evident with the release of “Submit to Ya,” an intoxicating and sensual single that caught the attention of the tastemakers at NPR. The track is produced by frequent collaborator Kelvin LeeTRBL Lewis, who was also behind the boards on the more recently released “Bigger and Better.” This tune is fueled by DeVille’s down-to-earth lyricism, as she chronicles overcoming obstacles in her life and triumphs amidst hypnotizing production.

These cuts and others on the album—don’t overlook the epic R&B ballad “Goodbye” produced by A.P.—prove that DeVille has more than earned the accolades bestowed upon her. She may have received spins on Hot 97 and graced stages from NYC to Hollywood, but the singer-songwriter is just getting started.

Seeing a track entitled “Submit to Ya” in 2016 may be difficult to come to terms with. Upon hearing the lyrics, your face will unscrew and you’re sure to be put in the right mood. Taking cues from a Tinashe record or more specifically—in sound and subject matter—Selena Gomez’s “Good For You,” Joella Deville presents an ode to giving yourself fully to a worthy partner rather than the dude who demands his dinner on time. While there are some similarities in content, Deville stands apart from her contemporaries in the richness of her voice, which exudes the depth and maturity missing in a lot of today’s Pop/R&B crossovers.
