WWE Hall of Famer, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka passed away on Sunday after a battle with stomach cancer. He was 73.

According to his lawyer, Robert Kirwan II, the former WWE wrestler had died “due to complications from his ongoing medical problems” in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Snuka made his wrestling debut in the 1970’s and created a world wrestling legacy throughout those years that peaked in the mid 90’s. Snuka was known for his high-flying and aerobic moves in the ring. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.

Snuka was the first WrestleMania opponent of The Undertaker at WrestleMania VII, this being the first match in The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak that would continue for over 20 years. You would often see Snuka feuding with the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper after Piper hit Snuka over the head with a coconut on the segement of Piper’s Pit.

His legacy was complicated by the fact he was charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend. Still, Superfly’s death had a profound impact on those who wrestled with him and those saw him as an inspiration.

Actor and Wrestler Dwayne Johnson shared the news of the wrestler’s death on Twitter.
