RESPECT.: Where you from and what’s your motivation?

JJ: Long Beach, Calif. and as of today my motivation is my Jr. I’m paving the way, he told me on his birthday recently that it’s time of course I knew what he meant. He’s 9 now and he already written 3 songs with hooks and everything..so he’s my biggest motivation I should have said .

RESPECT.: You’re from the LBC, is it a different vibe than LA?
JJ: Only different vibes are we have
a lot of beaches. We don’t have any blood gangs in Long Beach..we got plenty of parks where you can enjoy your day without people trying to cause problems..we have a issue of black and brown differences to where it has became ongoing racial tension in the LBC.

RESPECT.: Who are your musical inspirations and influences?
JJ: My musical inspirations are Scarface, Mystikal, E40, Mary J. Blige, Mc REN , IceCube, Mack 10, Luther Vandross, The Isley’s Brothers, Jay-Z, Brotha Lynch, 2 Pac, Warren G, Biggie ,and the Big Homie Nate Dogg, Rest In Peace.

RESPECT.: What was life for you growing up?

JJ: My life is crazy, it’s like a documentary.
People are already saying it’s like a movie from being charged as an adult at 15 years old. Then going from California youth authority to being on lockdown at 17 waiting on the Greygoose to transport me to Delano State Prison then I get out hearing all my music been taking. Two months later there’s an altercation with Dr Dre and Young Buck from G-Unit. My life has been great, I’m still breathing.

RESPECT.: What are you trying to do for the city?

JJ: Everything that every successful
Long Beach artist or entertainer should of done. Bring more black owned business to Long Beach leading by example in Long Beach is way over due. Shout out to Kelvin and his family at World Famous VIP Records on Pacific Coast Hwy and Lemon St…we wouldn’t have no Domino Lp (Longbeach)
SnoopDogg, Warren G, G Funk, DPG
RBX, Da Twinz, Dove Shack, 213,
The Booyah Tribe,Fosome, Krooked I,
the Eastsiderz, Nate Dogg and Bad Azz may the homie rest in peace.

RESPECT.: Is the fame important or the fortune?
JJ: Fame and Fortune is the same to me; what matters is how fame or fortune is obtained; it can drive the most sane crazy and both runs neck to neck. Neither is important see what I’m saying?!

RESPECT.: What are your top 5 hip-hop albums of all-time?

JJ: Best top 5 hip-hop now this ain’t too easy …DPG’s Dog Food album, Scarface’s Untouchable, Biggie’s Life after Death album Jay-Z Dynasty album, and OutKast’s first album is always a classic.

RESPECT.: What’s the story behind you and Dr. Dre?

JJ: Well the story is on YouTube. Worldstar Hip-Hop was the first to put it out and it went viral in minutes so as far as me and Dre. I’m never gonna take from my interview part 2 will be a movie just Google me Jimmy James Johnson, and get a clear understanding of what is going on. I’m starting to feel like if you got millions or billions, the street code of silence don’t apply to them because people are suckers for money.

RESPECT.: What’s Jimmy James Johnson about?
JJ: That’s my real government name which I found out at 24 years old. It’s a long story that’s why I did the LP Jimmy James Johnson most of my lifetime friends know me as James Knox.

That was my name all throughout school.

RESPECT.: Do you have more to prove than to lose?
JJ: Well you can’t win without learning how to accept a loss. I gotta prove myself to GOD and no one else, but I want to show how Long Beach is the most talented in all areas of entertainment and we need our own talent scout building of arts in my city.

RESPECT.: What’s next for you?

JJ: Live release party for new label and entertainment company, new production from Kobe Music and Zoo Lyfe Producer Rabbit Loc…Long Beach Artist, Las Vegas Artist, Cannabis Clothing LLC. I also have a documentary and short film with my son it’s going down. This is OTO, straight operation takeover. My last solo project is Conversation w/ Tha Ladyz. A dedication to all of the Women. My first LP “Cray Cray” ft. label mate ‘K-TWO’ from Bakersfield, CA streaming on every platform thanks to Emacculent Ent and Empire Distribution. They have opened doors and shout out to Ali at the coach’s corner radio and to PHE Professional Hood Entertainment my movie and video brother Bryan Bostic as well as my camera man Will.

RESPECT.: What does RESPECT. mean to you?
JJ: Respect can take you a long way in life. I respect everyone even if I dislike them, because you never know who that person is connected to speaking from life experiences.
