Like many of the photographers in our magazine, Jim Marshall is one of those lens masters revered by his peers and adored by those in the know. And, like most of the men and women whom we cover, more people knew his work than his name. Through his shots of 1967’s Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and  Johnny Clash at San Quentin Prison, Marshall’s eye provided the visual definition of the biggest and most enduring events of late 60’s rock n’ roll.

Marshall once famously said that he could “see the music” in his pictures. He may no longer see the music, but we still do. It’s in his work.
