<div><strong><em>RESPECT.: What inspired your love for music and decision to create it?</em></strong></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>Jenna Wright:</strong> Ever since I was little I had wanted to be a singer. I think that is in most little girls wanting to best like Hannah Montana. I would write little worship songs (more like verses) on my mini electric piano and my eleven-year-old self dreamed of how I could pitch it to Christian radio. I guess you could say I was a bit of an over-ambitious kiddo. That never really went anywhere but when I was 15 I wrote this song called, &#8220;I Never Left You&#8221; for my friend battling depression. We had been on face time the night before and my heart was really breaking for her. This was the first real song I had ever written with a real hook and structure. A friend of mine was a music producer so we got in the studio and recorded my vocal and piano part. From there I put it on Spotify and iTunes for my family and friends to listen and they really loved it. From there I realized this love for music could be more than just a little hobby. From there I fell in love with singing and writing and things took off from there.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div><em><strong>RESPECT.: </strong></em><em><strong>How would you describe your sound?</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>JW:</strong> I have always strived to be myself when it comes to my sound. I believe that God has created me unique so I figured that would be cool to walk in that. I definitely have a lot of artists that I look up to and learn from though. I have tried to take note of certain things from a whole lot of artists so I can create my own thing. Like I said, not a huge fan of copying people but I love putting my own twist on when it comes to the sound of my voice, pretty much everyone says I sound like someone different every time. A common comparison I get a lot is Halsey, but for the most part, everyone says something different. As far as the style of music goes, I would say that I just make whatever style of song I feel like making that day. I usually stick to pop and hip-hop type beats but I would say that most of my songs sound super different from each other. Music is how I express myself and the season of life that I am in will depend on what emotion or feeling I want to express in each record.</div>
<div></div>
<div><em><strong>RESPECT.: What would you like listeners to get from listening to your music?</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>JW: </strong>The main focus of my music is glorifying God so I really hope that you get a glimpse of my love for Jesus when you listen to my music. However, I write all of my songs based on what I am feeling or going through in that season of life so I have some songs that are not about God and that are about friendships or memories. I really hope that people can relate to my music and to the stories that I am telling. I think that it is so comforting to have someone to relate to when you are going through hard times. I really want people to realize that they are not alone. If that is through a faith-based song or a song about a falling out with a friend, I hope people feel that.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div><em><strong>RESPECT.: Tell us about the journey behind &#8220;Feels Like Home.&#8221;</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>JW: </strong>This new record “Feels Like Home” was written at a super low point in my life and its about all my friends who made me feel safe even though they had no idea that I was struggling. I also tell a story about how I became very closed off and afraid to trust people. I had been burned so many times and had always thought that it was because there was something about me. I began to surround myself with good people but was still afraid to trust them. I realized that they actually cared about me and that I’m free to be myself. The visual reflects that in a way because its a compilation of me exploring with my friends, being myself and random retro clips that I thought were really cool.</div>
<div></div>
<div><em><strong>RESPECT.: What is your favorite line from the song?</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>JW: </strong>My favorite line from the song is “Little did you know that you’re the reason I’m alive. All those stupid conversations up on face time too late.” What I wanted to say with this line, is that it is so important to be kind to people and check on your friends because you never know what they’re going through. The friends that would call me to just talk and see how I’m really helped me through that season of life. They didn’t even know it but those calls meant a lot.</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div><em><strong>RESPECT.: As an up and coming artist, what are your goals when it comes to creating music?</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>JW: </strong>One of my goals when it comes to creating music is that I would love to write songs for other artists. I love writing and recording for myself, but I really love co-writing and have fallen in love with collaboration. I think that it would be super fun to get my foot in the door with some mainstream labels and artists so I can write with some bigger names. I know that’s a long shot but that is for sure something I would love to do one day. Another goal of mine when it comes to creating music is to be able to freestyle sing. I know people freestyle rap but I think that it would be able to do that with singing.</div>
<div></div>
<div>I would say that my goals are as an up and coming artist is to show people that you can change the world with your art and that you can be a part of an impact if you put your mind to it. I don’t want to make that a cute little hashtag or just plaster it on socials, I want the way that I live to actually reflect that. Recently I’ve gotten the privilege to teach songwriting and hip hop in some inner-city schools and build some relationships with the kids there. Teaching those kids that message is the most fulfilling thing for me. I just want people to feel like shooting for me moon is never too long of a shot if you put your mind to it.</div>
