Just yesterday via OVO Sound Radio, Canadian-born rapper, Jazz Cartier, dropped his single, “Lil Wayne,” in honor of the titular artist.

The song greets us with a short clip from The Carter Documentary where Wayne speaks of his indescribable love for rap. The sound bite is a perfect introduction to Cartier’s homage to the rapper as he then breaks into his incredibly catchy hook:

“Lil Wayne, Lil Wayne, diamonds on my neck going bling bling,” Jazz Cartier raps.

The three minute track is smooth and cool as Cartier delivers his ever creative verses with perfect timing. The single was produced by Lantz, who also helped build Cartier’s last mixtape, Marauding in Paradise — a grittier offshoot of fellow Toronto rapper, Drake’s, The Six. Its clear in “Lil Wayne” that their creative collaboration is still going strong.

Listen to Cartier’s track for yourself above.

Toronto’s Jazz Cartier who is also referred to as Jacuzzi Lafleur makes a return with his most cinematic music video to date for the standout single “Opera” from his new album, Hotel Paranoia .

Over the last year Jazz Cartier has become one of the most exciting acts of Toronto who has even hit the US market big and from the looks of it, his journey to a whole lot more success has not been dulled down in anyway. His latest music video is a proof of that.

In his video Jazz becomes the “phantom of the opera” roaming the streets of Italy and exploring their beautiful architecture, exploring places like their signature canals and waterways of the Italian city, ultimately finding his way into the La Fenice Opera House. Kyle Sanderson-directed video enriches the song by bringing all of it’s obstacles to life, making it a one big theatrical act. Which leads the fans back to the original themes of the song.

In his interview with RESPECT Magazine, Jazz explains how being on the road inspired his latest album, explaining “A lot of the ideas stemmed from being on the road more so on my down time in my hotels. As a personal continuation in terms of growth from MIP, I feel like this time around I was more aware of the story line and where I could take it. The song writing has improved a lot. The confidence in the record is more present then it was on MIP”

Take a look at the video above and read his entire interview HERE.

For many young upstarts in the Toronto hip hop scene, following in Drake’s footsteps isn’t for the faint of heart. Luckily for the 6, Jazz Cartier saw the shoes he could fill and ventured on his own path. Hailed by many as the prince of Toronto hip-hop, he accomplished quite a bit with his debut mixtape, Marauding In Paradise, getting praise from many publications and jumpstarting a successful online presence. Most notable from his last project to the next is his growth–the right balance of striking lyrics, elaborate visual aesthetic and vivid storytelling. On the heels of his release and in the midst of a tour, the rapper joined RESPECT. for a brief interview about his new album, Hotel Paranoia.

RESPECT.: What was the creative process behind your new album, Hotel Paranoia?

A lot of the ideas stemmed from being on the road more so on my down time in my hotels. As a personal continuation in terms of growth from MIP, I feel like this time around I was more aware of the story line and where I could take it.

If you could pick three words to describe your music, what would they be?

Cinematic, passionate & progressive.

How do you think you’ve grown as an artist since Marauding in Paradise?

The song writing has improved a lot. The confidence in the record is more present then it was on MIP.

You were born in Toronto, but you’ve also spent a decent amount of time in places like Barbados & Connecticut as well—do you think those places influence your approach in music?

Unconsciously maybe, but nothing that I’ve ever noticed.

What are you most excited for your tour?

I’m excited to connect with the people and also so the fans can finally experience the music live.

What are you looking forward to in the next year or so? Any big plans?

Bigger tours, and collaborations that I’m sitting on. More opportunities to branch out, etc.

What does RESPECT. mean to you?

Expecting less and appreciating more.
