Universal, diverse and groundbreaking can be used to describe the artistic style of Jared Scott Perry.  With an ethnic background that is Native American, African American and Irish, Jared was born and raised in Harlem. His love affair of the arts and music began early in life. From dancing at his grandmother’s studio at a young age, to then singing in the Honors Choir at his junior high school, and finally studying at Fiorello H. La Guardia High School of Music and the Performing Arts (the infamous “Fame” High School). With a strong foundation of the arts already instilled, Jared experimented and honed in on all aspects of his musical ability.

On his smooth and super-catchy new single, the rising star tackles an issue that’s all too familiar to anyone listening: toxic relationships. We’ve all been there with loved ones, coworkers, and anyone in between. And as he croons on the hook, “Something’s wrong in my life/ But maybe it’s you, not me.”

Those unfamiliar with Perry’s previous work (check out last year’s “Letter to GOD”) will no doubt be impressed by both his songwriting talents and vocal arrangements. The aforementioned hook is a pure earworm, and it’s made that much more compelling through the layers of his own vocals.

Interestingly enough, Perry’s inspiration for the track was truly musical. The Harlem native was so taken by JWes’ melodic, piano-driven instrumental that he just had to create something over it. And given that the end result sounds this good, here’s hoping that Perry continues to connect with JWes over the coming months.
