It’s been a week since Tryna Kick Knowledge has brought you the freshest rap twitter juice. This week, Chief Keef was dropped by Interscope Records just 10 days before the release of his second full-length album, Back From The Dead 2, reported the Chicago Tribune. Last night, the Chicagoan rapper took to his smartphone to lament his broken relationship with the label:

And then admitted that he might leak a few tracks off of the album before its release:

In June 2013, Interscope offered the “Love Sosa” rapper a three-year/three-album incentivized contract worth $6 million dollars. Tightly connected to album sales, much of Keef’s potential profit from the contact would have been based on sales of Keef’s first full-length album, Finally Rich.

Legal troubles started plaguing Keef last year after he was sued by a Cleveland promoter who fronted him a $15,000 advance for a performance that he failed to appear at. Last March, Keef was arrested in the Chicago suburb Highland Park on charges of driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence of marijuana.

Though it has been rumored that legal woes might be one reason why Interscope would consider dropping Chief Keef, Interscope has yet to either confirm or deny officially dropping the rapper. Some rap industry reporters were not so surprised by Keef’s tweets. Andrew Barber of fakeshoredrive.com said, “I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, however. I think staying indie is the best option for Keef at this point. Then he can be free to make the type of music he wants, clear of restrictions and major label appeasement.”

Hopefully the independent life will treat Sosa well. For now, Back From The Dead 2 is still slated for release on Glo Gang label on October 31st.

The King is back. Sort of… Kendrick Lamar recently revealed cover art for a new project that will reportedly be released next week. The new song is entitled, “i” and reports say that Kendrick’s new highly anticipated album will have little to no features. Kendrick has also mentioned that he’s recorded songs with Dr. Dre and that the new album will be  emotional and aggressive.

Lil Reese is a 19 year old Chicago Southside native that appeared on one of the biggest rap records of 2012. “I Don’t Like”, by Chief Keef featured Lil Reese, became a local hit in Chicago on radio stations WGCI and WVAZ this March. The song created a buzz within the area and caught the attention of rapper/hip-hop music producer Kanye West, who is also a native of the same town. West quickly reached out Chief Keef to remix the song, and added rappers Pusha T, Big Sean and Jadakiss to the mix. The song was then labeled, “I Don’t Like (G.O.O.D Music – Remix)”, and included Chief Keef alongside the other rappers, leaving Lil Reese out the mix. The remix gained popularity in the U.S. and rose as high as 73 on the  Billboard Hot 100, 15 on Billboard Rap Songs chart and 20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In addition, the song collected over 17.5 million views on YouTube. But what many people don’t know is that it was Lil Reese who chose the Chief Keef track, over another Young Chop produced track titled, “Everyday”, to be released as a single.

During the period of Chief Keef”s success, Lil Reese released a track titled, “Us.” The track garnered similar attention within the Chicago area. In July, his DJ Drama and Don Cannon hosted mix-tape titled Don’t Like came out. “Traffic” became a stand out track and was released as a single. The track caught the attention of No I.D., the vice president of A&R at Def Jam Records, who signed the Windy City’s Southside Englewood neighborhood projects native to a record deal with the label. Currently, the Glory Boyz Entertainment crew have three rappers signed to major record labels. Chief Keef is signed to Interscope Records and Lil Reese and Lil Durk are both signed to Def Jam. This shows that the three rappers are bringing Chicago inner city life, back to a mainstream audience. So, keep an ear open for Lil Reese and his 3Hunna/300 Squad crew, because they’re about to change the rap game with their hardcore style. Include these three along with, past and present Chicago natives, Kanye West, R. Kelly, Da Brat, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Twista, Shawnna, Yung Berg, Crucial Conflict, Do Or Die, Jeremih and producer No I.D. who have all made major impacts in the music industry, because they represent Chi-Town to the fullest. “Traffic” does just that by, representing the hard street life that Lil Reese and Chief Keef know and face on a daily base. With lyrics like, “He not bout’ that life man/Catch him in traffic/We ain’t really with that talking/Bitch, we love that action”, you’ll definitely know that dem boys don’t play on the Southside of Chicago. And if you thought that was it, Lil Reese has more in store, with a remix featuring his Def Jam labelmate Young Jeezy coming soon.

50 Cent’s new joint “Im On It” was leaked last night, and he is not happy.  50 gets help from the Berkeley-based duo The Cataracs on production, but this song brings with it bad news about 50’s fifth solo album, Black Magic.  Earlier today, Curtis said that he will not be releasing his album due to problems with Interscope Records.  The leak of his track prompted 50 Cent to threaten leaking his collaboration with Dr. Dre on a song titled “Psycho“.  Only time will tell what prompted this sudden change of heart, but I guess we’ll have to make do with this single for the time being.  Read more on the story HERE
