Virginia’s K.eYe.D puts down the mic and jumps behind the boards on “Villainous Bliss.” The 12-track instrumental EP grabs from all areas of music, from trance-like ambience to space-age keys that feel like Space Invaders theme music, (“passthesticks”) “Villainous Bliss” not only stretches creative bounds, but acts as a medium between musical reality and a sonic dreamworld. While the imagery of K.eYe.D in an ominous lair, diabolically tapping his fingers together with a cat on his lap may be a bit far fetched, VB introduces a whole new side to his creativity. The Alchemist has been in the game for decades and his hustle is one that isn’t dying down. The super-producer has curated tracks for some of our favorite rappers including Mobb Deep, Schoolboy Q, and Action Bronson. The Beverly Hills native is currently working on a joint EP with Action Bronson and Party Supplies.

The ‘chemist doesn’t stop there. Alchemist is also working on the third installment in his Rapper’s Best Friend series. The instrumental series is set to release on Tuesday, September 30. Mark your calendars!

Originally released in 2008, Damu the Fudgemonk‘s instrumental mixtape Overtime has been reassembled into a 2013 version by DJ Cle OH. By layering sampled instruments and compiling unique drum kits, Damu creates chemical reactions of sound, producing beats that are laden with emotion and flavor. You won’t find any “bangers” here, but you will fine some well-crafted beats that invite listeners – and possibly rappers – into a world of limitless possibilities.

Live from Bedford-Stuyvesant, the livest one–or in this case, two. The Stuyvesants are a production duo comprised of producer Allan Cole (Algorythm) and record collector Darien Victor Birks (Flwrpt). Both of them reside in Bed-Stuy and draw their inspiration from the neighborhood. Their first project, Brooklyn’s Finest dropped in 2010. After two volumes of The Finer Things and a remix project, The Stuyvesants are back with their latest offering, entitled Refined. We’re noticing a theme here. Just in time for the summer, Refined is twenty-five tracks of mellow, soulful grooves sure to set the mood for any gathering you may be having or even a stroll through your own neighborhood. Enjoy.
