If you haven’t heard about Ingrid yet, you definitely will after this week.

The Houston newcomer, who once opened up for hot names like Drake and J. Cole, is on her way to forging a name for herself. Amongst being signed to Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment label last year, Ingrid, 30, dropped her premier EP, Trill Feels this weekend.

Trill Feels stays true to its title throughout its 7-track journey, boasting chill beats that accompany Ingrid’s smooth and skilled raps. If Beyonce’s Parkwood, which as of now features only four female artists, is a testament to female empowerment in a mostly male-dominated arena, Trill Feels is the perfect battle anthem. In her opening track, “Double Pedigree”, Ingrid speaks about embracing black pride citing role models like Michelle Obama as inspiration, alongside a purposefully slower track. Each drawn-out breath acts as the perfect punctuation for her potent self-realization.

‘It feels good to be black, so much decorum and tact.’

“Double Pedigree” seamlessly blends into “F*CK All Day (F.A.D)”, one of Ingrid’s faster tracks. Here, she holds back relying on a cool beat and an iterating chorus, reserving her rap for the song’s final moments. Trill Feels features other likely hits. Tracks like “Coming Dine”, featuring Devin the Dude and Kirko Bangz, and “Flex”, featuring the voice of artist, Sevyn Streeter, whose tone and range bares a striking resemblance to that of Beyonce herself, are sure to be fan favorites.

“Thing Called Love / Love Me” is certainly one of the EP’s more emotional tracks. It is a song about finding love only to realize that love has not found you. She walks us through the blissful ignorance of a budding relationship all the way through its inevitable death. ‘I think imma marry me to guarantee,’ Ingrid says in the track’s final breaths.

All in all, Trill Feels is a well-crafted EP and marks a strong premiere for Parkwood-signed artist, Ingrid. We sure are excited to see what else she has in store.

Be sure to listen her album here.
