Former Young Money rapper now turned independent artist Tyga has been in the headlines for a variety of reasons lately. Not only has he admitted that he isn’t fond of his old labelmates Drake and Nicki Minaj; there’s also the rumored romance he has going on with the youngest sister of the Kardashian-Jenner clan Kylie Jenner, who is only 17 years old by the way. As if that wasn’t enough to have his name being mentioned on all of the gossip blogs, yesterday, he made a business move that left Hip-Hop fans scratching their heads. Tyga decided he was going to invest $5 million into Shine Papers, which is a company that produces rolling papers that are made out of gold. Besides owning a huge portion of the company, he was also named its’ creative director.

Yesterday when Tyga confirmed the news in a statement he released, he posed a pressing question to fans,

Why burn regular paper when you can burn 24-karat gold?

He then went on to compare it to bottle service in nightclubs, by saying that rolling and smoking tobacco (marijuana) in these papers is a “premium experience.” In other words it’s costly and that would be correct, the single-leaf papers retail for approximately $4.60. I doubt this investment actually happened, who really believes that Tyga has that much money to throw away on what seems to be a foolish business venture.

After Karen Civil TV’s mini documentary brought us an in depth view of two of the West Coast’s most gifted independent artists, the union of Dom Kennedy and Nipsey Hussle returns over release “Don’t Forget Us”, a track forged in the sweats of their independent entrepreneurial struggles.

Yesterday, after Nipsey hit the net announcing that his project Crenshaw will be a free release, with physical copies selling for $100 a wop (numbered & signed), hundreds argued the topic of the worth of music. Regardless, he’s done something right. He’s on their minds, tweets, and their hearts with the latest collaboration with his Lemeirt Park brethren.

Dom’s voice radiates over the hook while Hussle relates his struggle over an impressive brass performance from horn player, Fela. Hussle spits, “ When my hope was low, I found light within.” Moments later he ponders, “..And if we livin’ in hell, is it alright to sin?”

All in all, it simply boils down to a truly anthemic record. Produced in by The Futuristiks and DJ Khalil, this is a song to remember. Crenshaw is out today, October 8th. Follow his movement on iamproud2pay.com and watch out for Dom Kennedy’s upcoming album, Get Home Safely, in stores Oct. 15.
