Los Angeles producer, Iman Omari works his magic on the mellow and hypnotic “Oo Lah Lah [Loop]”. The short but sweet loop borrows from the classic Fugee’s track “Fu-Gee-La (Refugee Camp Remix)”, which was released back in 1996 on their critically-acclaimed, six times platinum and final studio album, The Score. Check it out below along with the original for good vibes.

Artists like Kelela, FKA Twigs, SZA, Jessy Lanza, Sampha, Kingdom, Iman Omari and more are collectively embracing experimentation, leading to engaging and novel results. Conveniently, Saint Records (Solange Knowles’ new record label) has collected a few of these results and compiled them into a 12-track LP. It’s not an exhaustive list of these ongoing experiments, but it’s a very respectable introduction and it was curated by Solange. It doesn’t get better than this. Stream it via Spotify below.

We don’t typically post compilations, but this is a special case; these artists represent a much-needed aesthetic shift in R&B and beyond. Where they will take us is unclear, but the journey itself is definitely worth our time, especially since some of these artists have been vying for our attention for ages.

Music is all about energy for L.A. native, Iman Omari; personal feeling and cosmic flow translate directly into his sound, and when collaborating with artists he places an emphasis on good chemistry. The result is a distinct ethereal vibe that radiates far beyond any given track, but is somehow contained by it at the same time. This may sound abstract, and I guess it is; Iman Omari‘s music is like tapping into a good feeling who’s source you can’t exactly identify.

On his latest record, “Aqua Boogie,” from the upcoming project ESC vol. 1, Omari weaves distorted traces of Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” into jazzy piano embellishments and warm percussion, making for a chill summer groove.

Stream “Aqua Boogie” below:
