Double O   –   Lollapalooza   –   Chicago   –   Summer, 2010

In the summer of 2010, Jack Sommer jumped on a plane and headed out to his family’s spot in Michigan. After catching up with “Uncle” Wayne he packed up his brand new Canon T1i and set of lenses (50mm, 75-300mm & 18-55mm) and trained it to Chicago for his second Lollapalooza. As he recalls it, at some point between Asher Roth’s Lark On My Go Kart and Cudi’s Soundtrack 2 My Life Kidz in the Hall took control of the stage to rock with “wylin out, high energy.” While Naledge was somewhere busy crowd surfing, Double O made sure to hoist his plastic owl relic high into the mighty dome of lights above him. Using its divine power he coaxed the crowd into a hypnotic sway as he spit driving down the block with his bass crazy kickin. Breaking from the authority of the great snowy owl, Jack managed to swing his camera up long enough to capture the moment on the backside of his APS image-sensor (see this is why digital is so much less sexy than film). Unable to fight it any longer, Jack fell back under the power of the owl, riding it out for the rest of his three day celebration in Grant Park. He still managed to snap a few photos of J. Colealong the way. His words to the wise? “Go with your eye, shoot a lot, you’ll keep getting better and better. But don’t forget to develop your own style.” Cheers to that.
