Competition is fierce in showbiz, especially when two siblings pursue careers in similar genres. There isn’t always enough room for everyone to succeed. And though both may have their own unique talent and style, one sibling is likely to outshine the other.

Some artists grow resentful while others celebrate their sibling’s stardom and carve their own lane—(Hey Solange).

Rapper, singer, and songwriter, Illa J, still honors his late brother, J Dilla‘s prolific legacy. But, he’s focused on honing the career he’s built on his own.

After appearing on various posthumous projects with the deceased Hip-Hop producer and releasing various well-received solo albums, J channels the classic Detroit-bred Motown sound on “Home.”

Billed as the title song to his upcoming album, the single features J singing in a raspy falsetto matched with soulful production from Los Angeles-based producer, Calvin Valentine.  

Additional vocals by newcomer, Danielle Henderson beautifully complements the track as J showcases stellar vocals. The upcoming album was recorded in North Hollywood within six days; all other tracks on the new project also feature production by Valentine.

The anticipation continues to mount as Detroit vocalist Illa J prepares to release his debut album, S/T later on this year. In the meantime, Illa’s been hitting us off with dope collabs by way of Canadian production duo, Potatohead People, and also with the legendary hip-hop group, Slum Village. Visuals for the superlatively soulful “Universe” star Illa J’s real life beau as his leading lady, which further adds to the ‘awww’ factor as he successfully woos the woman of his dreams all over again.

Tomorrow, the legendary rap group Slum Village will release their new project Dirty Slums 2.  Realistically, this isn’t the same Slum Village that gave us classics like “Closer,” “Climax,” “The Look of Love,“ etc.  The group now consists of T3, Illa J, and Young RJ.  But, in the same spirit, listeners will get a new project from the group featuring: Rapper Big Pooh, Joe Scudda, Focus and more.  Giving fans an appetizer before the album, Slum Village releases their new track “The World is Yours” paying respect to the classic by Nas.  The song also features an posthumous appearance of deceased member Baatin.
