Stop the presses- the late great King of Rap, Notorious B.I.G. will be coming to stage a near you. ARHT Media announced Monday (April, 11) it has officially secured the rights to the late rapper’s likeness and intends to create a traveling “HumaGram” that will bring the performer back to the stage once again. The company will resurrect the famed rapper as a hologram.

B.I.G’s resurrection is part of a growing trend in turning iconic performers into -holograms. ARHT confirms other holographic celebrities including Whitney Houston, Billie Holiday, Michael Jackson, Andy Kaufman and Redd Foxx.

The Los Angeles-based ARHT Media intends to tour the hologram for arena performances and media campaigns using patent-pending technology described as a “scalable, repeatable and transportable form of 3D without the use of special glasses,” which allows audiences to interact with the projections within retail displays, tradeshow booths, and during other live events.

Gizmodo reports:

We already knew that the Tupac Hologram wasn’t really a hologram but actually just a modern regurgitation of the old mid-19th century trick known as “Pepper’s Ghost”. If you were confused on how that illusion worked, be confused no more! Here it is.

Roxanne Palmer at the International Business TImes made this infographic that clearly illustrated how the whole hologram shenanigans worked. AV Concepts, the company behind the fauxlogram, used Musion Systems Ltd.’s Musion Eyeliner setup to project a 2D animated Tupac onto an invisible (to the audience) screen to make him look 3D.

The most talked about aspect of Coachella was undoubtedly the Tupac hologram (which, of course, already has a parody Twitter account). Now, MTV caught up with the president of AV Concepts, Nick Smith, the man behind the creation. Smith says that the company has the ability to visually recreate the dead. “You can take their likenesses and voice,” he says. “[You] can take people that haven’t done concerts before or perform music they haven’t sung and digitally recreate it.”

Though Smith wouldn’t put an official pricetag of Makaveli’s hologram, he did say an average range is roughly between $100,000 and $400,000:

The Tupac hologram was several months in the planning and took nearly four months to create in a studio and though Smith was not able to reveal the exact price tag for the illusion, he said a comparable one could cost anywhere from $100,000 to more than $400,000 to pull off. “I can’t say how much that event cost, but I can say it’s affordable in the sense that if we had to bring entertainers around world and create concerts across the country, we could put [artists] in every venue in the country,”

Who’s ready for Puff to bring out Biggie at Summerjam? You know it’s probably inevitable, unfortunately. Check out the full MTV article here.
