Rising recording artist Hefna380 is trying to make it out of his hometown, Brooklyn. The former-basketball player spent some time shaping his sound after fracuturing his ankle. “I Gotta Go!” is his debut single, which racked up thousands of views since its release. Moreover, Tahrell is preparing to drop a music video for the single in the future. Check out the interview below.

How did you come up with the name Hefna380?

The name “Hefna380” came from my young teenage Nickname “Hefna.” It’s inspired by Hugh Hefner because I liked Playboi. The ending, “380,” comes from being my cousin’s favorite semi-auto pistol. We were together one night and came up with it the same night.

What was it like growing up in Brooklyn?

Growing up in Brooklyn wasn’t bad compared to living in New Jersey. Brooklyn was different, everything was so close up together stores I used to walk to my school every day. The environment was cool, I used to walk to school I went to Public School 161 in Crown Heights, NY I live in an apartment ah man don’t I miss those times street lights NY nights I almost wanna cry thinking about it, I used to wake up put on my school uniform get breakfast every morning with my mom or dad then play in the schoolyard with some old-time friends till school started.

Is basketball still your passion?

Basketball is still my passion when it comes to free time you’ll always catch me hooping I grew up Playing this Game watching it with my dad almost every day being a star when I was younger basketball really took a huge toll on me when I was done playing due to injury.

What made you pursue music?

What made me pursue was that being a model before this whole Music start was cool and all people would see me and know I’m hefna already I would go home some nights and freestyle to beats on youtube I would literally sing and rap and that’s when I had come to realize I really had a voice so I started recording at various friends houses and studios.
