Vandalism in New York subways isn’t exactly something new, but this time, what was written was disgusting enough that many people whipped out supplies to get the messages written in Sharpie off.

In a story posted on Facebook, people could see that some Neo-Nazis had graffitied on every advertisement on the subway, featuring swastikas and anti-Semitic messages. According to the Gregory Locke, who shared the story as seen below, someone got up and said “Hand sanitizer gets rid of Sharpie. We need alcohol,” which prompted most to go rooting through their personal supplies to get rid of the filth written on the ads.

This is not the only evidence of the rise of hate crimes after Donald Trump was elected, according to Complex. With organizations such as the “Alt-Right” which is the newest term for Neo-Nazism, and also with people in a more official capacity such as Milo Yiannopoulos of Breitbart News and Stephen K. Bannon, who now acts as a chief advisor to Trump, it is no wonder that people fear that more hate will be on the rise.

Chelsea Clinton referenced the story, saying that, “We will not let hate win. And, another reason to carry hand sanitizer”. Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, also made a comment on the event, Tweeting that “This is what New Yorkers do – we turn hate into love. And we wont back down -not now, not ever. #TurnHateIntoLove”.

Perhaps the best advice to take would be Locke’s own advise after someone commented that they guessed “this is Trump’s America”.

“No sir, it’s not. Not tonight and not ever. Not as long as stubborn New Yorkers have anything to say about it.”

If everyone in America takes this stance, we can drown out this hate, or at least provide enough hand sanitizer to get it off the walls of more than the subway.
