Have you been waiting on new GrandeMarshall? Of course you have. We haven’t heard a lot from the Fool’s Gold  (RIP the late visionary Dust La Rock) rhymer lately, but his newest low-key jewel, “Make It Count” says it all. Simplistic production allows GrandeMarshall to spread his message in a calming and harmonious space, acting as more of an artistic lecture than anything. There’s still no release date for his upcoming project “My Brother’s Keeper,” but if this track teaches us anything, it’s that it’ll be well worth the wait.

GrandeMarshall, Mugga Man

When it seemed GrandeMarshall could not get any better–his debut mixtape 800 was very impressive–the Philadelphia-based rapper returns with Mugga Man, a tape that drives with atmospheric production and Marshall’s alluring flow. Mugga Man picks up where 800 left off, with Marshall continuing to experiment as both a rapper and producer, improving in both roles. His MCing skills take center stage though, as Marshall enlists producers Nascent, MP The God and SamGreenS. Mugga Man is an excellent tape that showcases Marshall’s consistency and creativity.

Standout track: “Gethernudeinterlude”

Funkmaster Flex, Who You Mad At? Me Or Yourself?

This tape features fifty-six tracks. All of the songs are exclusives and most of them are good. From Schoolboy Q’s “Hit Em Up” to Childish Gambino’s “Think Of Me,” the tape bangs pretty hard and offers an eclectic selection of rappers.

Standout track: “Love To A Diplomat” (Cam’ron feat. Lil Wayne)

Jae Millz, Property Of Potentness 2

Even when his tapes are solely dedicated to smoking weed and celebrating its 4/20, Jae Millz still manages to create enjoyable music. The fact that he turns a verse from Erykah Badu’s “On & On” into a marijuana-friendly jingle on “Whataday,” is a good example of his ingenuity. The production pairs well with Millz’ lyrical content: the “Summer Madness” sample on “Elevate Your  Mind,” the “cloud rap atmosphere” of the aforementioned “Whataday,” and the minimal boom bap of “Dat Feel.” If he wanted to, Millz could become the go-to “weed rapper.” But he’s better than that.

Future & FreeBand Gang, Black Woodstock: The Soundtrack

If you’re expecting 10 minute psychedelic raps featuring Future’s underwater and gargled delivery, you will be disappointed. Nothing is “Woodstock” about this tape except the fact that it’s wildly fun. And unlike past FreeBand Gang releases, Future’s cohorts actually leave an impression this time around. Casino’s “White” is ridiculous in the best of ways and Doe Boy’s “Sack” has a highly memorable hook. Black Woodstock is, with the exception of a few dragging moments, a twenty-track adrenaline rush.

Standout track: “Suffocate”

Philadelphian GrandeMarshall is relatively new to the hip-hop scene, but his music sounds like that of a savvy veteran. Since signing to Fool’s Gold Records–home of animated MCs Danny Brown and Action Bronson–in November, the far more subdued Marshall has released a handful of tracks that have left the internet abuzz. Now, he is capping his run by dropping Mugga Man, a dope new 21-track mixtape. Throughout the tape, GrandeMarshall laces parables of the street life over a bedrock of extremely smooth tracks, using a nonchalant flow.  Features include Mugga Mar, Asaad, Joey Moon, and Remy Banks from World’s Fair and Children of the Night. Production is handled by SamGreen5, MP The Gawd, Junia-T, Nascent, Stackz Beats, Jaylen!, Ben Pramuk, and Marshall himself. Stream and download the project below.

Philadelphia-based MC Asaad has a few projects under his belt, notably his last release, Troy EP, which came out last year. Now, the MC is gearing up to release his new project oo6, but before doing so he is giving fans his new track “Ak47.” For the track, Asaad hooks up with fellow Philadelphia MCs Wyo and GrandeMarshall, who recently signed with Fools Gold Records. The song is produced by production duo Nascent and QB. Prior to the upcoming release, make sure to check out Asaad’s previous projects here.
