Two days ago (August 11th), the world celebrated the birthday of Hip-Hop, which was created at a now-iconic a party on 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx — 44 years ago. This year, Google (note: Lyor Cohen is now Head of Music there, under YouTube) outdid itself with a day-stealing doodle that centered upon turning the user into a DJ, all with the help of Fab 5 Freddy (with the sketch coming courtesy of Cey Adams).

The creators of said doodle — Kevin Burke, Ryan Germick and Perla Campos — spoke on its creation (source):

[Kevin:] I’m a huge Hip Hop fan. Growing up outside New Orleans, it was a part of my DNA-performing Hip Hop in my high school band, adding Hip Hop to my college radio station’s rotation, and working on the set of Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson” music video in my first job out of college. Hip Hop has been a constant thread through my life and I wanted to bring my love of it to a Doodle. I developed the concept for interactive turntables, showed it to my manager Ryan (also a fan of Hip Hop), and he lost it. He said, “let’s make it tomorrow!”

In a standing room only panel, Chicago based, Swank PR’s  “The PR Trifecta” Artist, Business & Branding Partnerships in PR workshop was a hit on Friday April 21. Housed under the umbrella of the Google sponsored Lake FX Conference, the largest mid-west free conference for emerging artists and creators,executives, business execs and public relations experts were all in attendance at the Chicago Cultural Center’s 5th floor in their spacious Millenium Room.

Panelists discussed branding, their passion for the business of entertainment and music and success stories of how their clients made it.

Simply put: no brand can exist without the artist and the artist can’t be branded without great representation.

I moderated the panel which included Marc Glanville of Mosaic, Lyrical of Lyrical Eyes Management, Briahna Gatlin of Swank PR and Burrell Communication’s Dave Jackson and Tracy Anderson.

The PR Trifecta panel addressed the multi layers of cross branding artists and brands through public relations and building partnerships.

Kevin Liles, co-founder of 300 Entertainment and CEO of KWL Management, closed out the conference with his discussion and keynote address

“What I loved about the panel was the wealth of insight on branding that so many people had no idea about,” SWANK PR’s Briahna Gatlin told RESPECT Magazine by phone. “In this digital age we need to look into the idea of making partnerships and brands apart of the formula for success.”

I’m beyond excited to moderate Swank PR’s workshop on Friday April 21st at 1:00pm. Swank PR, in partnership with the 3rd Annual “Lake FX Chicago” Creation Con 2017 Expo & Summit presented by Google, will host a power-packed workshop entitled “The PR Trifecta” Artist, Business & Branding Partnerships in PR in the Millennium Room (5TH Floor) of the Chicago Cultural Center, located at 78 E. Washington St.The PR Trifecta panel will discuss the multi layers of cross branding artist and brands through public relations and building partnerships. No brand can exist without the artist and the artist can’t be branded without great representation.

From the business aspect to the impressions, they co-exist. One can’t live without the other.

The all-star lineup of panelists includes Brand & Lifestyle Curator/ Experiential Producer of Mosaic – Marc Glanville, Account Supervisor Engagement/Experiential at Burrell Communications – Dave Jackson, VP PR/Engagement Marketing of Burrell Communications – Tracy Anderson, Artist Management – Lyrical Eyes Management (Ashlee Bankz, Lil Durk, Tink), and Swank PR Founder and Owner –Briahna Gatlin. Lake FX Creation Con is the largest mid-west FREE conference for emerging artist and creators which Includes; A & R auditions for musicians, an interactive resource fair, free professional workshops, and free networking events.
