Versatility is the mark of the creative individual. No one inventor, the musical artist included, should have one niche that they dabble in throughout the course of their career. Rather, the goal should be to have a hand placed, even if it’s softly, on many different facets of art. This is exactly what Nicky Francis, the mind behind the R&B project Gold Clubb.

Nicky Francis uses Gold Clubb as his rendition of experimentation with contemporary R&B- he’s known for his work with his indie rock band The Majorleans. We see the emphasis of R&B and hip-hop shifting more towards ambiance than lyrics, a movement which Nicky Francis declines by continuing to write stellar, story like ballads in all his music.

The 2-Stroke Mixtape was a project anticipated by fans of Gold Clubb, but also by the musician himself:

“This was a spirit we stumbled upon, it came out the sky.  When I heard Brandau’s bass laden productions it triggered something inside me, I stepped to the mic and it all started to flow. Storytelling is an art and we hope to continue to study and explore the form in a context that moves with timeless rhythms and infectious moods.

This is for everybody that found a style, lived on their edge, explored the darkness, felt the love, got banged up, and lived the story as it unfolded. I personally want to dedicate this to the county and city of Baltimore, MD. I don’t live there no more, but I’ll always be from there.”
