Currently, the world is mourning over the tragic loss of singer, songwriter, producer and all-around cultural icon George Michael, who passed away at his Oxfordshire, England residence. He was only 53 years old.

The news was confirmed by his publicist (via BBC):

It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.

According to his manager, Michael Lippman, the cause of death was attributed to heart failure; he was also said to have been found “in bed, lying peacefully.” Thames Valley Police have stated that the death is “unexplained”, albeit “not suspicious.”
