Here’s an unforgettable video: Tyler, The Creator decided to join Funkmaster Flex at Hot 97 for a pretty dope, lengthy interview, where the Golf Wang head honcho spoke on A$AP Rocky, fashion, music, “beef” (including between him and Flex, apparently) and more. At the end, he also blessed Flex and the listeners with a, um…beautifully cringe-worthy freestyle off the dome.

Check it out below.

First, fans can check out her new visual for album opener “Ganja Burns,” which was apparently filmed in the same place as Queen‘s cover image was shot. The Mert & Marcus-directed clip — which begins with a lengthy message for her detractors — sees Nicki has, well…a sand god?

Also added below: a couple of sit-downs with Stephen Colbert and — surprisingly — Funkmaster Flex, who she previously carried a long-standing beef. Keeping with the “beef” theme, a big back-and-forth with her and DJ Self went down yesterday; you can read about that bizarre dispute here.

Nicki Minaj is currently enjoying the chart-topping results of her new album Queen (it’s currently number one on Apple Music in like a gazillion countries). This weekend, she decided to give Funkmaster Flex the green light to premiere a loose cut titled “Sorry,” which features sometime-boyfriend Nas. Had it not been for the Tracy Chapman “Baby Can I Hold You” sample (which wasn’t cleared, for some odd reason), this would have appeared on Queen. Regardless, you can enjoy it below.

The entertainment industry is hugely male dominated.

That’s a fact! But, male dominated doesn’t mean male controlled.

If 2017 has taught us anything, it has been women using the power of their voice to combat sexual harassment and sexual assault in the workplace.

Notables in the entertainment and news workplace have felt the fury, too. Former NBC Today Show anchor, Matt Lauer, hip hop mogul, Russell Simmons and American film producer, Harvey Weinstein are some of the names that have been implicated in the tumultuous scandal.

Hip hop has been male dominated forever and a day. You see differences in pay, women and their bodies objectified and more.

“We’ve fought for a very long time,” cultural influencer Karen Civil told me on Scoop B Radio.

“We’ve fought for a very long time and I’ve been in places where the victim was looked at as the person who did something wrong and because of that their voices were lowered because they felt like they were messing up a workplace or messing with your career and your ability to go far.”

Civil turned her fascination with the internet into a lucrative career. Her website, LiveCivil.com is a hub that aggregates content in news, music releases and celebrity interviews. Her point of entry in mainstream began as an intern with Funkmaster Flex. She’s also been responsible for connecting the dots on a marketing level with Beats by Dre headphones during their early stages with Monster headphones by marketing artists and athletes.

As a result of the current women empowerment movement, many are losing their jobs and awareness of the severity of sexual harassment in the workplace has been a great awakening for many. “I love that this Me-too campaign was created because it shows that we’re not going to take it,” said Civil.

“I love the fact that it’s happening in this day and age with the president that we have now because it shows that we’re not going to silence our voices we’re here and you’re going to respect us.”

Sounds empowering.

Last year, Civil was the director of cool during the Presidential election for Democratic hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton. While women were inspired this year to vote in critical state’s like Alabama, millennials seemed inspired to vote last year. “Young millennials came out in full force and voted for her,” said Civil.

“But I feel like situations like this make us more aware because we see what’s happening around us. So we need to make sure that we’re voting on every level and shows the importance of educating yourself on politics and what’s happening around us.”

With 2018 jump starting next week, million dollar question for Civil: What’s your New Year’s resolution? “Being more in a positive space,” she said.

“Because of the world that we live in I always prepare for the worst, but I need to stop doing that and mentally prepare for the best and stop thinking more negatively so definitely being in a more positive mindset.”

Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Freekey Zekey, Duke Da God, Hell Rell, Jim Jones and Cam’ron are forever engrained into hip hop culture as Dipset! They were fashionably different, hand their own slang, their own swag and cult following. Some consider them the modern day Wu Tang Clan.

Breaking into the music game, being noticed and being consistent can be tough. Jim Jones began as Cam’ron’s hype man.

Remember Horse and Carriage? Jimmy was Mr. Me Too!

Appearing on a Mother’s Day edition of the Scoop B Radio Podcast, Nancy Jones, mother of Love & Hip Hop reality star and rapper, Jim Jones, weighed in on Jim and Cam’ron’s relationship being repairable, stating:

“Well you know what that’s on them. I would love for them to get it together and even though a little damage has been done. And if it was left up to me, I honestly would call myself stepping in but you know what? They are two grown men, they’re not young boys anymore. So that’s something where they have to either work it out or don’t work it out and that’s how it is. I hate for it to be like that but sometimes it is what it is.

Check Out Mama Jones and Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on Scoop B Radio:

Mama Jones recalled the early days:

“I would always tell not only him, but his sisters and all of them it’s always better off having your own because you have no problems or nothing like that. After a while when I saw different things with him and Cam I said to him: ‘now it’s time to stop the things you are doing with him and do you.’ I didn’t know he was going go and rap but I told it was time to stop and do you. You do something great and something that you know where you can make money, because I knew soon as you was born I knew you were a star in my stomach and everything, soon as you were born that was it. I said: ‘oh a star is born.’

She recalled when Jimmy starting his solo career:

“So one day I was laying in bed then he came home with this record saying, “I’m On My Way To Church” and showed me a $175,000 check,” she told me on Scoop B Radio. “And I said: ‘what the hell?’

“And I see him in front of the album and I almost lost my mind. Me and him were in front of the bed and I started jumping on the bed and after that he told me “mommy you inspired me because you told me now it’s time for me to go out and start to do my own.”

Mama Jones said that she learned from her own life experiences that it was better to blaze her own trail and she imparted that wisdom on to her son. “Yeah do your own,” she said.

“It’s nothing like you having your own because when you’re underneath somebody it’s a problem. You know I have a problem with it, I tell you like this I never really held on to a job I always made my own jobs because I can’t take a boss that’s over me telling me what to do, how to do it and the whole nine I’m not good at following directions like that so instead I have to go out and do my own and that’s what I did and that’s what I wanted him to do.”

She also talked about the early days of Mase, Jimmy, and Cam’ron:

“Oh I was very happy for them, I told them to be very careful. There were times they would get into little scraps and stuff like that. And I would have to come between them and tell them to get it together. Whenever they got into their little disputes they would get it together but now everybody is grown up and everybody wants their own. Everybody wants this and that, it’s kind of a little rough it’s kind of a little hard to where I say I’m gonna to control anybody. And I don’t want to control nobody and I got tired of the bickering and carrying on, making yourself look like an ass out there to people on TV or Instagram or on the radio. I don’t even like even with Love and Hip Hop the way they’re carrying on and stuff like that. Even though we started out like that, but when we started out with Love and Hip Hop it wasn’t like it is now Love and Hip Hop. Now, I might as well call it the wrestling ring.”

Despite differences, both Cam’ron and Jim Jones are coming around. Jones recently spoke about he and Cam’ron fractured relationship in February in an interview with Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex. He was contrite. According to Jones, Cam’ron was the most important member of the group and he protected him at all costs, making sure he was “untouchable.”

The music scene was buzzing this week with new releases, videos and “Holy Keys”, but there were some unofficial moments that were blazing the ears of Hip Hop heads that left us bobbing our heads and salivating for more. From freestyles to live streaming DJ sets, Hip Hop was on fire and RESPECT is putting it all in one place for you.

One moment we couldn’t stop talking about was Dave East‘s freestyle on Hot97 during the Funkmaster Flex show. Bringing two and a half minutes of straight bars, you know he made the list. We also snatched up the impromptu live streamed DJ set from Mad Skillz as he came “Live From the Basement” with his special mash up tribute to legendary music icons Michael Jackson and Prince.

Bringing a new element to his legendary freestyle segment, Sway not only blessed us with some bars from Mir Fontane & Don Flamingo, but some banging production from Mike Zombie. Noreaga, Remy Ma and Memphis Bleek teamed up and quietly dropped their blazing track “4 Da Win” and Brasstracks gave lyricists everywhere an epic beat from an unexpected source on Rhythm Roulette.

Check out the videos of This Week’s Hottest Unofficial Hip Hop Moments below, thank us later.

It’s been a crazy past few days with all the Meek Mill and Drake beef going on via Twitter. Earlier tonight, everyone downloaded the Hot 97 app/tuned into the radio station, waiting patiently for Meek’s response to Drake’s diss track, “Charged Up” (released over the weekend on OVO Sound Radio via Beats 1.) Unfortunately, Funkmaster Flex promised a time for the diss track and didn’t deliver. But it’s far from over.

According to Complex, a very pissed off fan, Azeem Khan, started a petition to force Funkmaster Flex from his position at Hot 97. After not delivering on his promise of Meek Mill’s anticipated response to Drake’s “Charged Up” diss track tonight, fans and detractors alike have been at Flex’s head about what they perceived as deception from the legendary DJ. The petition has a very strong mission statement that claims that tonight’s stunt was “the last straw,” and they want Flex off air for good:

“This fraud of a DJ decided to lie to everyone for ratings and downloads of the Hot 97 app that Meek Mill would be on tonight to release a diss track to Drake to no avail. No one has given Hot 97 two hours of listening time since Biggie was alive, and it’s a crime to have taken that from us. The people have spoken and it is time for Funk Flex to step down.”

The petition already has already received 3,000 supporters in less than 30 minutes. Will Flex respond by dropping more bombs? We’ll just have to wait and see.
