The Boy Illinois Releases New Freestyle “Othello”; Will Perform At Chicago’s Biggest Festival

For some the second quarter of 2018 is a chance to rebrand themselves while still “starting” this year on a high note. For others, it is a continual build on the foundation they’ve been laying. The Boy Illinois is of the latter group. The Chi-Town’s native has released a new freestyle titled “Othello” to remind fans and haters he still encompasses the essence of hip-hop and has the bars to match it.

Illi had a great Q1 that included performing multiple shows at SXSW 2018 and, having Forbes call him the next hottest Chicago Act. While all that is great, it’s not stopping his hustle as he is preparing to release 2 albums this year while consistently working and building his fan base all over the country. He will also perform at the biggest and longest running festival in Chicago “Taste of Chicago” and will be closing out the festival that Sunday, July 15th.

In the video, shot by Ted.V1, The Boy Illinois sets the scene nearby a gritty Chicago train track delivering bar after bar while wearing his signature fresh to death loafers. He addresses haters switching sides like “Othello” and placing himself in the forefront as up next showing up “fashionably late,” but right on time.

With this video he is proving that it truly is “Illli Season” and he’s stepping up to the plate making major moves showing he can go line for line against the best.

#CheckTheFreestyle: Fluent Puts His Own Spin On “Magnolia”

After dropping the dynamic Carolinafornia Nightmare album in late 2016, Los Angeles-based rapper Fluent returns with a slick-talkin’ freestyle over Playboi Carti’s addictive “Magnolia” single.

The playful, earworm of a beat is from Atlanta’s Pi’erre Bourne and was featured on Carti’s self-titled debut album released this past April, and Fluent does his damn thing over the instrumental to make it his own. And he does so with a swagger all his own, spitting a smooth flow for nearly two minutes straight and shouting out everyone he’s rocked with over the years (from Action Bronson to SpaceGhostPurrp).

More than a shout-out joint, Flu’s “Magnolia” is also an opportunity to talk some sh*t and flaunt everything he’s earned during his time in the game. This includes plenty of Arthur George socks, a laundry basket filled with Louis Vuitton, more than a few bottles of Hennessey, and a selection of droptops—not to all be enjoyed at the same time, of course.

Flu’s take on “Magnolia” is also serves as a strong reminder to check out last year’s Carolinafornia Nightmare, which includes a number of fire tracks like “Make It (featuring Blu)” and “Getting Paid (featuring Yung L.A.).” The 12 track LP is available via Supreme Regime (via EMPIRE) through all major digital retailers and streaming services.

Toronto’s ShaqIsDope Drops “Falling (Freestyle)”

Toronto Canada’s ShaqIsDope is an open book on his latest freestyle titled “Falling (Freestyle).” Counting down the days until the release of Shaq’s self-titled project, he shares profound words in his freestyle over Kur & Dave East’s instrumental for,“Fallen” off their collaborate project, Born Broke, Die Rich. On the track, you can hear SID speaks from the heart as he spits lyrics about the beauty behind the struggle. As the rapper reflects on life before his career he comes to terms with the lows in his life and becomes even more grateful for all of his success.

Ever since the rapper announced to the public that his self-titled EP is set to release early this year, SID has been keeping rap fans on their toes. Now that Shaq is back with the first release of the new year he leads us to believe his EP’s release date is approaching. Desiigner’s XXL Freestyle is Now a Song “Timmy Turner”

Desiigner’s XXL Freshman freestyle that evolved into the famous “Timmy Turner” viral freestyle is now a song.

In June, when XXL gave the young Brooklyn MC the floor to do a freestyle, the kid snapped his fingers, created his own melody and came up with “Timmy Turner.” The rest was history. That freestyle became a internet sensation. After many random people remixing his track and adding production, the-19-year-old sat down with the genius Mike Dean to come up with something.

Earlier this month, Desiigner and Dean gave the world a “Timmy Turner” teaser via Instgram, but now the G.O.O.D Music artist officially made it into a song.

He opens the song with the finger snapping freestyle, sort of as an interlude before the beat drops and he goes wild on the verse. The freestyle without the snaps is the hook. He adds another verse of his unorthodox ad-libs we all grew to love, which are heard throughout the track. Dean did an excellent job of giving life to a once acapella freestyle. When the song begins, it seems as you are in a dark place then at the end, he brings you back to the light.

A$AP Rocky X Tyler, The Creator: New “Freestyle”

The most awkwardly brilliant duo in modern hip hop joined forces on Kanye West‘s ‘Freestyle 4’ off of his latest album: “The Life of Pablo” just a few short weeks ago. They decided to go in yet again on a new freestyle. According to XXLmag the freestyle was recorded by a soundcloud user via the Golf Media app‘s live stream. The original sound clip has been converted to HQ for a better listening experience, check it out below:

A$AP Rocky hails from Harlem, New York with a keen sense of fashion and an artistic vision for acting and directing films such as “Dope.” Tyler, The Creator is exactly that, a creator! He came into the rap game fresh out of Ladera Heights, California with a style of alternative hip hop that was uniquely his own. A$AP and Tyler are both pioneers of their respective groups, A$AP Mob and Golf Wang which have continued success from the streets to the screen. Anything that comes from this unlikely pair should be considered art, to say the least.

The “Rocky and Tyler Tour” came to an end last October after starting in Lowell, MA and concluding in Dallas, TX. It seemed as though the collaborations and unorthodox freestyles might also come to an end, but neither artist shows signs of breaking up this uncanny yet beautiful bromance. They have created a new feel to the music that they produce. They also show the rap game that you don’t have to stay within a secluded realm of artists that are similar in style. Maybe this will spark ideas to branch out for other artists as well. This may just be the new avant garde of hip hop! Stay on the lookout for more heat from A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator!

New Fuego: Dave East – “Blow A Check” (Eastmix)

Invariable, back-t0-back heaters on deck, when it comes to one of hip-hop’s newest heavyweights, Dave East. It’s safe to say heavyweight right? I doubt many will oppose to that, considering the great response from hip-hop aficionados everywhere. 2015 was a glorious year for the Harlem emcee. His latest project, HMN (Hate Me Now), has recieved major recognition from the streets to the internet, and of course several big league hitters in the game. Dropping visuals and quality music, whether freestyle or original, the outcome is regularly dope. This week, he fittingly laces us with the EastMix to Zoey Dollaz’ “Blow A Check”.

King Los Feat. Diddy – “Public Enemy” (Freestyle)

King Los performs lyrical gymnastics on Diddy’s 1999 release, “P.E. 2000.” While some may be unfamiliar with Puffy’s original, King Los breathes new life into a record that was released before the turn of the century. It’s bars as usual, but having that level of lyricism grace the beat from Puff’s standout cut from the “Forever” album is wildly nostalgic and really refreshing. Looks like Los and Diddy will always be on good terms. “One, one, one, one.”
