Blessed to have attended, the Red Bull Music Festival continued November 21st, 2019 with none other than Lupe Fiasco. Sold out on a Thursday, it was hands down a night to remember and one for the books. 

Hosted at The Riviera Theater in Chicago, opening acts arose from Kidd Kenn, Two Depressed Kids, and The Twilite Tone. These three acts set the mood for Lupe Fiasco to own the stage and he did just that. 

Chicago-born rapper, Lupe Fiasco gave the crowd a passionate performance of a lifetime, reciting his entire 2006 album Food & Liquor. An album that touched millions of listeners in 2006, Lupe Fiasco was able to reciprocate the same feelings and energy back to his hometown 13 years later. A magical night for Chicago, Fiasco’s performance lasted around 2 hours and included a charismatic band featuring horns and violins. Cinematic, holding nothing back, Lupe Fiasco delivered an intimate, three minute speech (outro) towards the end of the show.

Lupe Fiasco appeared on stage the whole time in a Bulls jersey stamped with his name on the back. Thanks to Red Bull for hosting the Grammy Award-winning rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Chicago could appreciate once more what Lupe has done for the music industry with just this one classic album as well as the path he paved for all the artists to come after him. Overall, an impressive and aesthetically pleasing show, I would definitely give it a five out of five stars.

Nine years after releasing his debut album Food & Liquor, Lupe Fiasco gives us a video for “Just Might Be OK”, which is featured on the project. With the current events taking place in our nation, particularly Baltimore and the Freddie Gray, Lupe saw fit to deliver the Chris and Blaq-directed visual. The timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Lupe’s most recent album, Tetsuo & Youth, is available now.

Lupe Fiasco gives us a fine display of wordplay on his latest track “Animal Pharm”. Lupe raps over the Atoms for Peace track “Ingenue” as he references lions, tigers, birds, and many other animals. Lupe found inspiration in the George Orwell novel “Animal Farm” for this one hence the tittle and the track full of metaphors. It’s unsure if the track will appear on his album Tetsuo & Youth  or if that album will ever see the light of day, but for now just enjoy the clever wityness of the Chicago MC. Lupe Fiasco stopped by Hot 97 yesterday to chop it up with Funkmaster Flex. Lupe’s making his rounds to promote his new album Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt.1 which drops September 25th. He went on to spit a dope, effortless freestyle for about five minutes over the Artifacts’ “Wrong Side of the Tracks” beat. Don’t sleep on Lupe, the boy has skills.

If for some reason you slept on this masterpiece of sharp flows and storytelling, then pick up this special edition which includes tracks, “Carrera Lu,” “Tilted,” the Pharrell-assisted “ … And He Gets The Girl” and “Theme Music to a Drive By.” And videos for “I Gotcha” and “Daydreamin’” are included too? That’s one good music package right there.
