Flying Lotus continues to push the boundaries of art from all angles, from music (You’re Dead!) to film KUSO. Now, the musician-producer teams up with NOWNESS to create the short film Define Beauty: Skinflick, which centers upon Bob Heslip — a man who suffers from neurofibromatosis type 1, a pretty severe (and fairly rare) skin condition. Flying Lotus explains:

I first met Bob Heslip when working on my feature film KUSO – I had him do a very small role for me and in the process of shooting I saw so much potential in him as an actor and a unique human being. He is a lovely man and I wanted to make a film that would honor the beauty of his unique condition.

Remember Flying Lotus‘ WTF horror film Kuso this past Summer? Of course you do. Naturally, you’ll also remember the music from the flick, which was as amazing as it was jarring to the senses. The theme song, “Post Requisite,” now has it’s own visual. We also learn post-clip release that the highly-touted producer is working on his official follow-up to 2014’s You’re Dead, which is set to be released via Warp Records.

Enjoy “Post Requisite” (directed by Winston Hacking) above.

Los Angeles producer, Steven Ellison, also known as Flying Lotus, caused some controversy when he made a misogynistic “joke” about Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

During a show at the Fox Theater, Flying Lotus told the crowd that while he doesn’t like Donald Trump, he “couldn’t possibly vote for a woman who doesn’t give an awesome blowjob.” It was a distasteful comment referencing former President, Bill Clinton’s sex scandal with his then-intern Monica Lewinksy.

FlyLo quickly added “just kidding. I’m going to vote for her ass anyway.”

He reportedly began his set by commenting on Donald Trump and the number of men in the crowd.

A reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle grabbed a video of the rant and posted it on Twitter.

So @flyinglotus starts talking about he don’t like @realDonaldTrump then says this about @HillaryClinton ? pic.twitter.com/aeOoRIPiVo

— Mariecar Mendoza (@SFMarMendoza) September 17, 2016

Some audience members took to social media to express their displeasure.

I was with him through "It's 2016, you can't be a scumbag anymore" but we must've been on different levels there

He has since taken to Twitter to say that he loves having a microphone to say some “depraved s**t u need to hear,: and then told his fans to vote Clinton.

https://twitter.com/flyinglotus/status/777183334317240320

https://twitter.com/flyinglotus/status/777179513897619457

This is not the first sexist remark that has been directed at Clinton. She frequently faces comments from Republicans who have made vocal opinions on her appearance and her attitude all throughout her career and campaign.

It is also not the first time Flying Lotus faces backlash over his comments. In June, he likened the treatment of producers from rappers to “rape,” by writing “hella rap artists are rape artists” in a series of tweets.

When jazz-hop producer Flying Lotus makes moves, things gets weird. So now that FlyLo has taken to Twitter to announce that his record label, Brainfeeder, is starting a film division, you can expect weird to become a regular occurrence.

The first film project slated to be released by Brainfeeder is called Royal, directed by Flying Lotus himself. He describes the short film as “an awkward love story that’s definitely not for the kiddies.” It will premiere at the 2016 Sundance NEXT Fest in August.

Flying Lotus has already signed animator and lunatic David Firth onto the new Brainfeeder film division as well. Firth is the creator of Salad Fingers, a delightfully disturbing animated series that can never be unseen. Firth also contributed visuals to the video for Flying Lotus’ track “Ready Err Not,” which premiered on Adult Swim, complete with viewer discretion advisory notice.

Flying Lotus has previously shown an interest in working with filmmakers who have created visuals based around his music. Young Replicant directed a video for “Coronus, The Terminator,” and Khahlil Joseph directed a short film featuring music from Until The Quiet Comes.

Last year, Flying Lotus provided the soundtrack to Eddie Alcazar’s short film F**KKKYOUUU, a morbid, body horror sci-fi cut shot in the style of an old Ed Wood flick, which also premiered at Sundance NEXT.

Flying Lotus credits this animated gif, based on a shot of him with Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, with inspiring his venture into filmmaking:

In October of last year there was this pretty awesome gif going around of me and Thom Yorke djing. pic.twitter.com/l09Y48Gvhq

— FLYLO (@flyinglotus) July 6, 2016

“I was fixated on this for a whole day and thought. S**t. I can make stuff like that,” Flying Lotus tweeted. “So now after lots of toiling tinkering begging and bothering I’m able to tell u this. Brainfeeder has started a film division.”

You figure it out.

Festival season is finally in full swing and we can’t get enough of it. Between Coachella, Gov Ball and Bonnaroo, we can’t figure out whether to go just a few or all of them! To add more pressure to festival goers, Afropunk just announced their line-up and it’s looking like a close call.

Afropunk, which takes place in Brooklyn, will be held August 27th-28th. The line-up includes the following acts:

–Ice Cube

–Tyler, the Creator

–Ceelo Green

–Flying Lotus

–TV on the Radio

–Janelle Monae

–The Internet

–Earl Sweatshirt

–Fishbone

–Living Colour

And so many more! There are about 60 acts in total and there will be three separate stages. Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park is going to be quite packed those two days! The tickets for the show are already on sale and can purchased on the Afropunk site. More information on Afropunk, the show and other events they have going on can be found here.

So will you be attending Afropunk this year?
