The trailer for the highly anticipated dramatic film Fences is here, starring and directed by Denzel Washington with co-star Viola Davis. The rendition from the well known 1983 play written by August Wilson takes place in the 1950s about the life of a former baseball player named Troy (Washington) and his family, Rose (Davis) as his wife and their son played by Jovan Adepo.

The teaser reveals a riveting, intense monologue from Washington to his son while displaying captivating  scenes  that are sure to leave audiences full of emotions. The warm, antique tones provide an old-fashioned feel for a timeless story wrapped around family tension of denying his son’s dream and an affair that challenges them all.

Davis, of course, delivers a moving performance in the short clip that is sure to claim her a spot in the Oscar nomination, even though the film is primarily focused on Washington who is also likely to secure a position in the awards discussion. In a statement made by Washington, “If there’s 25,000 words in the play, we’re using them all, but I framed it…it was an organic process where scenes could take place.”  Davis’ role has been greatly awaited due to her history with the play. Davis and Washington co-starred in a praised revival of Fences on Broadway back in 2010. She later won a Tony Award for her performance as Rose. Earlier in the month, Davis was nominated for her consistent remarkable performance in the ABC drama, How To Get Away With Murder, although she didn’t win, Davis will continue to drive us with her compelling talent in this cinematic experience.

The critically acclaimed debut of Fences will hit theaters on December 25th.

Fences has released the video for his latest track, “Arrows,” featuring Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and from what we see, Macklemore is addressing the critics head on. The video was directed by John Keatly and Jason Keonig and was shot in Seattle, Macklemore, Ryan & Fences’ hometown. The track features Fences speaking on past relationships and Macklemore touches on the attack from the critics.

Seattle native Macklemore offers another powerful visual, only this time off THE VS. EP (REDUX) for the song “Otherside Remix,” which features vocals from Fences. For those of you who thought he could not top the NBA-dreaming/consumer culture of sneakerheads theme in “Wings”; think again.

Shot in various locations for about a year, longtime friend and director Jason Koenig chronicles Macklemore’s personal struggles of the same “stuff Weezy be sippin’ on.” “Otherside” follows a message of how music affects our youth culture today, specifically if the content is about substance abuse of  alcohol, lean or marijuana smoking.

Macklemore manages to open our eyes to the aftermath with his earnest storytelling. It’s another addition to the very few pleas in hip-hop today that listeners shouldn’t indulge in the world of drugs.
