Premier: Jace Abstract & Robin Da Landlord Travel Back In Time On ‘Rockstalgia’ (EP)

Jace Abstract and Robin Da Landlord travel back in time with their ‘Rockstalgia’ EP. Abstract and Landlord have an adoration for the 90’s sound, and ‘Rockstalgia’ is a sonic representation of the vibe they’re curating. ‘Rockstalgia’ is a 6-track collection where the two European creatives (Jace from Switzerland and Robin from the Netherlands) embody a retrospective take on Hip-Hop; somewhat of a musical time machine that transplants the listener to a specific era, that era prophetically being the 90’s. Robin Da Landlord’s Boom-Bap aesthetic on record has a grass-roots feel to it, capturing the essence of the rhyme and doing so in a manner that translates an older, seemingly forgotten sound to todays market. Jace Abstract’s hard-knocking punchlines and wordplay lend way to a deeper, more emotionally contextual sound. Cuts like ‘Sin City,’ ‘Mad World’ and ‘Think Back’ act as insightful narratives, where tracks like ‘Listen‘ and ‘One‘ are more lyrical exercises, emphatically delivered bars allowing Jace to lyrically flex on record. Dropping on Below System Records, ‘Rockstalgia’ is a modern day revival of an antiquated sound lost in the pages of rap history. The producer/rhymer paradigm created by these two European hopefuls is evident in the fact that the music is not only moving, but also reminiscent of a time where it was lyrics above all else. Artist Oh Blimey takes us on an international journey with her in her latest visual for, “Oh My.” Captured during her #HashtagTour in Europe earlier this year, fans and viewers alike get an inside look on what being on the road and hitting the stage is like when your living out of a suitcase. While some of us are not privileged enough to globe trot around the world, Oh Blimey was able to hit up some of the top cities across the pond on her first European tour. Jealous yet?

A$AP Rocky And Wiz Khalifa Announce European Tour

It seems Wiz Khalifa and A$AP Rocky are set for an eventful month, having organized a joint tour that sweeps across central cities in Europe.

Taking to Instagram, both emcees confirmed the 16-day trip, with a colorful flyer that assists in setting the unique tone. Kicking off October 13th in Nottingham, the pair will be moving through the UK, before hitting Belgium where the tour will wrap up on October 28th.

We are more than ready to see the trappers light up the stage; and with such a diverse collaboration we expect a representation of the high life at its finest.

Street Art: Cyrcle Doesn’t “Struggle” With Creating Beautiful Murals

Los Angeles-based duo Cyrcle recently spent some time in Europe, where they received an invitation to HRLN’s mural project happening in the streets of Heerlem, Netherlands. The two man collective spent a few days curating this masterpiece for locals to enjoy. They entitled the piece, “Struggle.”

In an interview, the duo had this to say about their latest contribution to Netherland’s street art:

The struggle that Heerlen has been going through for over twenty years battling the coal industries collapse and drug addiction. The wild colors and images visually translate that struggle and is meant to empower and inspire the community to keep fighting.

Video: The Underachievers talk experiencing Europe, Indigoism, signing to Brainfeeder, and more

Following their performance at the German hip-hop and reggae Splash! Festival earlier this summer, The Underachievers, Issa and AK, sat down with Ben Maechler of urban lifestyle magazine Splash! Mag. They discussed topics ranging from the duo’s love of indie and alternative rock, the indigo theory, Jay Z‘s phenomenal crowd control, as well as possible collaborations with Flying Lotus, Lunice, and Statik Selektah for their upcoming album on FlyLo’s Brainfeeder label. Issa and AK also address comparisons between the Beast Coast movement and the Native Tongues collective, the importance of visuals to draw the attention of fans, and spiritual and intellectual advancement in the internet age, resulting in an interview which exemplifies the self-awareness that The Underachievers communicate through their music.

Street Art: Best Of The Week

Nick Walker

Nick Walker is currently in South America working on the walls of Sao Paolo, Brazil. The British stencil artist produced two new pieces which feature his anarchical alter ego, “The Bowler-Hatted Vandal”.

Ludo

Ludo produces another one of his monochromatic murals with a hint of nature in the urban environment of Ivry Sur Seine, France. This piece is entitled “Greatful Dead.”

Nychos

Nychos is now in Windsor, Canada for the Free For All Walls project. The artist, known for his anatomical, surrealistic pieces, produced a mural exposing the anatomy of a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Pixel Pancho

Pixel Pancho is currently in Los Angeles where he produced two pieces. The artist loves exploring the relationship between nature and his character.

Fintan Magee

Fintan Magee is now in Brisbane, where he just completed this new piece. His use of the floor as an extension of his piece creates the sense that his mural lacks boundaries, extending everywhere.

INTI

INTI is now back in Central Europe, where he just completed this new piece in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The artist is currently in town for the Step In The Arena Festival where he painted one of his signature mystical characters.

Deih

Deih keeps on tearing through the streets of his hometown, Valencia, with yet another new offering to the local pedestrians. Fascinated by the strangeness of life, the artist produces an original character in a surreal setting.

Street Art: Borondo, Ghostly Figures

Borondo is an up and coming 23 year-old street artist. He is reinventing street art by using an original method of “glass scratching,” inspired loosely by the recent economic crisis.”Where the crisis strikes, you will notice many shops that are either closed or empty. If you scratch the window slightly you will suddenly be able to see the inside of the shop. I find that quite poetic, glass has something bautiful about it. Sometimes I like to do the opposite of that. I apply black paint on commercial spotlights and by scratching the paint off the spotlight, I allow light to pass through.” Borondo appears to be a little bit of a wise guy, explaining how his technique has more than esthetic advantages: it is actually a great technique for avoiding the cops. On the innocent nature of his method, he quips, “Technically you are only erasing paint that is on a window.” In his work, Borondo focuses on “humans and their emotions.” He aims to create something far from the Pop Movement and its codes. He wants to create a dialogue with the environment, and for this dialogue to work he calls for discretion. His characters have a ghostly quality, they are present without being overbearing, and merging with their environment perfectly.
