THEY. – “Bad Habits” (Esta Remix)

So here’s the thing; about two weeks ago, I got hip to a duo from Los Angeles who goes by THEY. How I got hip to them was weird, though. I was reading an article on Pitchfork, which listed all these songs that artists should cover. One of the songs was “Bad Habits” and the writer suggested that it be covered by Young Thug. Being the curious person I am, I clicked on the link to the song. Not only was the writer dead on, but this was also an amazing song that would get played about 50 more times, that day.

Producer Esta, who you might know from his work with Soulection has decided to create his own reworking of the song for your listening pleasure. Take a listen, below and also check out the OG version here.

New Mixtape: CJ Fly (Pro-Era) “Thee Way Eye See It”

CJ Fly is officially the newest break-out emcee from the Pro-Era crew. The 20 year old rapper just dropped his first solo mixtape, Thee Way Eye See It, last Friday, and it is obvious that he means business. The debut project not only features production from hot producers like Carnage, Statik Selektah, and Esta, but it also has an impressive list of guest artists–most notably, Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest. How this 20 year old managed to get one of hip-hop’s greatest retired rappers to appear on his first mixtape is beyond us. However, after listening to track, its obvious why the two decided to collab. CJ Fly‘s first album is lyrically focused, while still maintaining a very smooth vibe, reminiscent of the old school New York swag pioneered by groups like ATCQ. We’re interested in seeing which songs from the new tape CJ is going to debut while he’s performing on the Smokers Club Tour this winter. So far, tracks like “The Heist”, “Too Paid”, and “Seek Well” have received the most praise from CJ‘s fan base.

New Music: Esta – “Blessed” (Schoolboy Q Sample)

Recognize the loop circulating through this Esta beat? If so, then you’re probably a fan of Schoolboy Q‘s last album, Habits and Contradictions. Esta took the synths from the Black Hippy, “Blessed,” and turned it into the driving force behind this hip-hop inspired dance beat called- you guessed it-“Blessed”. Apparently, the super dope version that Esta released via his Soundcloud is only the “rough”, unfinished edit. If that’s the case, we can’t wait to see what the final cut is gonna look like.
