The seven track EP is full of flavor. It’s got style and does have some spectacular flows. Some believe that the flows are a tad bit odd and/ore weird, but it embraces the youth voice. That voice is louder than ever when it comes to Kenobi. the Kid from outer Space.

Abstract and Landlord have an adoration for the 90’s sound, and ‘Rockstalgia’ is a sonic representation of the vibe they’re curating. ‘Rockstalgia’ is a 6-track collection where the two European creatives (Jace from Switzerland and Robin from the Netherlands) embody a retrospective take on Hip-Hop; somewhat of a musical time machine that transplants the listener to a specific era, that era prophetically being the 90’s. Robin Da Landlord’s Boom-Bap aesthetic on record has a grass-roots feel to it, capturing the essence of the rhyme and doing so in a manner that translates an older, seemingly forgotten sound to todays market. Jace Abstract’s hard-knocking punchlines and wordplay lend way to a deeper, more emotionally contextual sound. Cuts like ‘Sin City,’ ‘Mad World’ and ‘Think Back’ act as insightful narratives, where tracks like ‘Listen‘ and ‘One‘ are more lyrical exercises, emphatically delivered bars allowing Jace to lyrically flex on record. Dropping on Below System Records, ‘Rockstalgia’ is a modern day revival of an antiquated sound lost in the pages of rap history. The producer/rhymer paradigm created by these two European hopefuls is evident in the fact that the music is not only moving, but also reminiscent of a time where it was lyrics above all else. Stream ‘Rockstalgia’ below and make sure to download the EP on iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play.

Cuts like “I Can Tell” and “Mad @ Us” mirror the EP’s direction, a raw tale of unpredictability in what seems like consistent life turbulence. “I’m Yours” and “A Way Out” (a seemingly genius drug ballad) conversely, finds Sui on the hopeful end, spitting airy rhymes over a soulful melody, inviting the opportunity of potential. “Lucky Us” is built around the idea that pouring all available emotion into a message can often times triumph over all, not a shabby takeaway from AZ’s clandestine hopeful.

Oslo’s Nico & Vinz light up LA in their lyric visual for “Our Love.” The Norway duo and Warner Bros. signee’s transform the night in the City Of Angles, having the animated lyrics act as a graf-like visual representation of the record’s energetic depth. Off their “Cornerstone” EP, (iTunes) “Our Love’s” pop-centric, upbeat nature and sultry, electronic vibe create a chasm of positive feeling; You could even call it a love of sorts.

Hailing all the way from Kansas City, BLKFLANL gives a their Wins.The.Race. Ep. BLKFLANLis a collective which includes Barrel Maker (MC) and Conductor Williams (Producer), they definitely make for a powerful duo in my opinion. With Conductor providing some shard and pristine production, and Barrel dishing out cutting edge lyricism, Wins.The.Race. definitely gives you a ride of a lifetime. Also, to add some more excitement, check their video for the EP which includes appearances from: Dizzy Wright, Wale, Futuristic, and ETC. Check it out.

Ohio native King Callis has been passionate about for music for awhile but decided to take it up notch once he decided to relocate to the “new Atlanta” aka Charlotte, NC. Overtime, the rapper has built up his own style while grabbing inspiration from Hip-Hop icons like Common Sense to Slum Village. The rising artist recently dropped his EP Brunch (Food For Thought) is not only showcasing his 90s style but is also letting us know why he’s not going anywhere, anytime soon. For now, enjoy the rising artist’s latest project here.
