Comprised of EL-P and Killer Mike, duo Run The Jewels recently released their video for their song, “Close Your Eyes (And Count To FXCK).” Portraying the issues between blacks and police officers (and the court system, in general) today, the video illustrates this struggle. With exhausted violence portrayed, the video highlights the pointless of violent resistance, on both ends, rather than working together.

Run the Jewels has dropped off quite an animated visual for their track “Lie, Cheat, Steal.” Directed by RUFFMERCY the video features animation that both highlights the song’s lyrics and stresses certain parts in the beat progression. Mask choices and choice of setting also add to the gritty mystique captured in this visual.

El-P and Killer Mike play by their own rules. While the album was going to be a free download (as well as an iTunes release) on Tuesday, they decided to drop it in the early hours of the morning. The album is chocked full of left-field, jarring production and intricate rhyme schemes, making this easily one of the best releases of the year. Meow The Jewels, the cat remix version of El-P and Killer Mike’s forthcoming Run the Jewels 2 album, has become a reality. We reported on the kickstarter campaign last month, and while it was an interesting idea, the reality of it happening seemed a bit far fetched. With the goal of $40,000, the page had only raised $7,000 as of that post, and things seemed grim. That was until a number of different producers hopped on board for the cause (all money raised will go to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown). Just Blaze, Alchemist, Boots, Dan the Automator, Zola Jesus, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and more will be contributing.

The star-studded line-up will be eclipsed, of course, by the fact that we’re getting fucking cat noises all over this thing and therefore the internet is likely to implode once it arrives. There are few things the online community adores more than felines, except whenb those felines are being put over amazing hip-hop production, of course.

Run the Jewels 2 arrives October 27. Meow the Jewels will arrive sometime later, hopefully in time for Christmas so all households can play that instead of Jingle Bells.

Killer Mike and El-P are gearing up for the release of the sequel to their critically-adored Run The Jewels album. While the anticipation for the album is more than enough, some attention ws taken off the actual project when they sent out a tongue-in-cheek e-mail full of crazy pre-order packages. Among some real options, such as the usual t-shirt and vinyl bundles, there were some more lavish options such as the “I’m on The Fucking List, Asshole” option for $7,500, which gets your name and a +1 on the list for up to 10 shows. However, there were also crazier choices, ranging from having Mike and Jaime stay at your house to smoke all your weed for 35k to them taking revenge on someone you hate for 100k.

The option that gained traction, though, was the “Meow The Jewels” package. For $40,000, “Run The Jewels will re-record RTJ2 using nothing but cat sounds for music. You are free to profit from this album in any way you see fit up to 100k in net global profit or 3 years (whichever comes first).” Now, this was clearly a joke, but you simply cannot tempt the internet with cat-related content. In fact, the internet loves cats so much, a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to make Meow The Jewels a reality. As of posting, the page has 490 backers with over $7,000 pledged. Catching wind of the campaign, El-P took to Twitter stating that if it in fact happened, the money would go to charity:

if meow the jewels happens i intend to donate the money somewhere that will directly benefit the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.
