Ray Medixi

For many people in the Empire State, the name Ray Medixi may be familiar. For others, it would be believable if it wasn’t. Over the last few years,  Medixi has stayed under the radar. We’ve heard him on songs with a multitude of R&B vocalists, sell out venues like the legendary SOB’s and open up shows for billboard charting artists like Serani. We’ve also heard him cover songs from The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran but we haven’t gotten much from him alone.

Who is Ray Medixi besides one of New York City’s own? He is one of the brightest up-and-coming artists in New York and you’ll see him sooner than later. A little over a week ago, Ray Medixi released an dark pop song called “Sunfall” which seems to ride off of the success of his trap-fused R&B single “Heaven Sent” which was released last October following the collaborative work he did with multi-platinum producers Chef Pasquale and Dez Wright most notably known for their work with Drake and Partynextdoor on the More Life and Dark Lane Demo projects. “Sunfall” was produced by the London producer Certified Beats. The coalition linked up with various artists to drop this collaborative album, 50/50. The album was first announced in early 2020 and was distributed three months later. The 50/50 album consists mostly of Hip Hop and Rhythm & Blues songs and the 20-track project marks The DJ Grid’s return, following a short absence in terms of albums releases.

The 50/50 compilation can currently be purchased in CD format at Wal-Mart, Kmart, and Sears. The star studded album was physically distributed by Predicted Platinum Records (A sub-label of Amada Records).

The Lion King (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

As you probably know, the super-updated version of the classic film The Lion King is set to hit theaters next Friday Thursday (July 18th). Today, fans get to check out the official soundtrack, features some sangin’ actors and a score courtesy of Hans Zimmer. Included in the 19-track offering: an original cut by Beyoncé titled “Spirit,” and re-imaginings of childhood favorites like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” (random but necessary shout-out to Elton John).

Big K.R.I.T. – K.R.I.T. IZ HERE

I can’t believe that it’s been almost a decade since the release of the groundbreaking K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. This weekend, Big K.R.I.T. decided to provide a proper sequel (?) for that project titled K.R.I.T. IZ HERE — a 19-track body of work that also sees additional appearances from J. Cole, Yella Beezy, Lil Wayne, Saweetie, Rico Love and more. Check it out below.

Blood Orange – Angel’s Pulse

This weekend, Dev Hynes somewhat surprises his fans with a follow-up to the still-rotating Negro Swan. Check out Angel’s Pulse, a 14-track offering with additional appearances from Toro y Moi, Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, Tinashe, Justine Skye and more. He explains:

“My new record is called ‘Angel’s Pulse’ and I performed, produced and mixed the entire thing myself… I’m calling it a mixtape. I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time.. I decided to release it… I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go mates.”

Ed Sheeran – No.6 Collaborations Project

Master P – I Got The Hook Up 2 Vol. 1

Master P is back. The man who gave us turn-of-the-century classics like Da Last Don, I’m Bout It and, well…all of No Limit’s classic musical catalog is back with an official sequel for the timeless hood flick I Got the Hook-Up, and fans get to enjoy the soundtrack before its release (UPDATE: The film’s out now). The accompanying compilation sees a slew of dope features: Jeezy, Calboy, E-40, YFN Lucci, DC Young Fly, Fat Boy SSE, Romeo Miller, Silkk The Shocker and more make appearances on the project. Last month, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber delivered a smash hit of a track titled “I Don’t Care,” complete with hilarious visuals to match. Now, fans of the original can check out a remix of the Fred Gibson, Shellback and Max Martin-produced cut which features Reggae stars Koffee and Chronixx.

Ed Sheeran recently revealed that he delivering a new release titled No.6 Collaborations Project on July 12, which will — as you’ve probably guessed — feature a bunch of dope collabs. This week, the British star delivered a new track from that project titled “Cross Me,” which features assistance from Hip-Hop artists Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock.

Check that out below, along with another recent track/visual — “I Don’t Care,” which features the additional stylings of Justin Bieber.

Sheesh.
