Anticipating the release of his next project Home Court Advantage, The Boy Illinois is climaxing a successful reign from his former project DuSable, with the debut of the EP’s last single “Ruling Class” featuring Drey Skonie. 

Ruling Class welcomes us into the mind of Illi’s, where his love and passion for knowledge, nature, and the conscious account of self awareness and value, as well as the love and cultivation of our cultures reside. “Ruling Class”, produced by 25th Floor and directed by FlyKite, also pays homage to the classic “If I Ruled the World” by Nas and Lauryn Hill with a modernized interpretation.

Illi even got the co-sign from fellow Chicago native Lupe Fiasco

The Boy Illinois gives an account of his world, with the melodic voice of Drey Skonie floating in the background with the retro hook. The scenery is set in the exclusive Gold Pyramid House, a testament to Illi’s acknowledgement of history, culture, and what makes us who we are as a people and individuals.

Illi left the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to pursue his music dream full-time. He has been trending on the internet since 2008, when he released his first solo project Inhale Part 1: State Representative. Illi began rapping at around 11 years old, but says he didn’t take his craft seriously until age 15. He did have some precedent in his life in regards to performing as his father was also a singer.
